Sanjay Pandeya
Nephrologist (Kidney Specialist)
700 Dorval Dr. Suite 710 Oakville Ontario, L6K3V3About
Dr. Sanjay Pandeya, the Medical Director of the Multi-Care Kidney Clinics, Peritoneal Dialysis and Home Hemodialysis, and currently the elected Incoming President of the Canadian Society of Nephrology, joined Halton Healthcare as a Staff Nephrologist in Oakville in 2000. He has been providing care to the communities of Oakville, Milton, and Georgetown. He has been also serving the Burlington community since that time and has been on Staff at Joseph Brant Hospital since 2009. He completed his medical degree at the University of Ottawa in 1995, and received his RCSPC certification in Internal Medicine and Nephrology training at the University of Western Ontario in 2000. After assuming his role at Halton Healthcare in 2000, Dr. Pandeya has been instrumental in expanding Nephrology care throughout the region. Having served in various committees and administrative bodies within the hospital and region, a home peritoneal dialysis program was approved in 2005 and has grown substantially over the years. In 2010, home hemodialysis was approved for Halton Healthcare. Both of these programs are under the Medical Directorship of Dr. Pandeya. For patients who require hemodialysis, Dr. Pandeya cares for patients at both the in-centre hemodialysis unit at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and at the Burlington satellite unit which was opened in 2009 to provide hemodialysis services closer to home to patients in Burlington with end stage kidney disease who are suitable for care in this out-of-hospital environment. The Nephrology program at Halton Healthcare is a regional Nephrology program, and like other regional programs in Ontario, care is delivered in a hub-and-spoke model. The program was and is responsible for care to patients in the Burlington area. It was in November 2009 that Dr. Pandeya initiated in-patient consultations at Joseph Brant Hospital on an emergency basis, which then evolved to 24/7 formal coverage. Joseph Brant Hospital now has robust 24/7 Nephrology coverage and the ability to provide acute dialysis in the Intensive Care Unit. These endeavours have afforded patients in Burlington the ability to have care closer to home with care providers who have known them best. Along with maintaining a robust clinical practice, he is actively involved in clinical research and has collaborated in several peer-reviewed research projects and publications with academic colleagues, as well as serving on several committees and holding administrative positions. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at McMaster University since 2014. Dr. Pandeya is often sought after to contribute his expert opinion in various Consultancy roles, and has served as a Medico-Legal expert in multiple cases. Dr. Pandeya is honoured to have been elected by his fellow Canadian Society of Nephrology (CSN) Members to be the President-Elect in May 2018 for two years prior to taking over the role of President of the CSN in 2020. This is the first time in the 50-year history of the CSN that a Nephrologist not based at an academic institution/university has been elected to this Office. He previously served on the Executive and Board of the (CSN) as Secretary-Treasurer (2011-2015). In 2018, Dr. Pandeya was elected to the Fellowship in the American College of Physicians. Dr. Pandeya acknowledges and highlights the fact that Nephrology care is a team effort and enjoys and embraces working with his other physicians, nurses, allied health, and administrative team members in fostering and evolving the delivery of timely, accessible and optimal care to patients in the Region.
