Dr. Elissa Jeanne Santoro, MD, works at the Center for Breast Health and Disease Management, a part of St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. She is Founder of their Breast Care and Treatment Center, a practice devoted exclusively to breast oncology/surgical oncology cases. Now seeing patients for: New Diagnosis and 2nd opinion-and breast cancer survivors. Appearing on several media outlets, Dr. Santoro is known as the first woman ever to receive a post doctoral grant through the American Cancer Society. She was also the first woman to ever exclusively enter the field as a breast surgeon in the state of New Jersey. Awarded for her excellent and innovative contributions to medicine, Dr. Santoro has worked with New Jersey state legislators to develop a Woman's Health Department and increased funds for Breast Cancer Research.

Get to know General Surgeon and Breast Surgical Oncologist Dr. Elissa Jeanne Santoro, who serves the population of Livingston, New Jersey. The International Association of HealthCare Professionals is pleased to welcome Dr. Elissa Jeanne Santoro, MD, to their prestigious organization with her upcoming publication in The Leading Physicians of the World. She is a highly-trained Breast Surgical Oncologist with expertise in all facets of her work. Dr. Elissa Jeanne Santoro has been practicing for over 47 years and is currently on staff at the Center for Breast Health and Disease Management, a part of St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. Dr. Elissa Jeanne Santoro obtained her Doctor of Medicine Degree from the Women’s Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1965, where she also completed a straight surgical internship. After two years of Surgical residency at Woman’s Medical, she completed her Surgical residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City, and became the first woman to be Chief Surgical Resident. There, she received an ACS postdoctoral Fellowship in cancer training. At New York Medical College she was awarded a postdoctoral Fellowship from The National Cancer Institute, and was also on the surgical faculty. Dr. Santoro then moved to New Jersey and joined the faculty at UMDNJ. Later, she joined St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ private practice and in 1977 opened the first Breast Oncology practice in New Jersey. Dr. Santoro is certified by the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery, and is particularly renowned as an expert in breast surgery and surgical oncology. Dr. Santoro remains a professional member of many professional organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Disease, the Medical Society of New Jersey, and is the First Woman President of the New Jersey American Cancer Society. She is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions including the Continental Who’s Who 2018 Recognition of Excellence, was named Patient Preferred Oncologist 2018 by Patient Preferred Physicians and Practitioners and NJ Top Doctor in 2018, and she was also Featured in Preferred Health Magazine. She attributes her success to her upbringing and her determination to become a doctor at a young age. When not assisting patients, Dr. Santoro enjoys traveling, reading, and hot air ballooning.
