Get to know Oncologist Dr. Jamie K. Waselenko, who serves patients in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Dr. Waselenko (or Dr. Jamie as her patients like to call her) is a well-versed oncologist whose areas of interest include general medical oncology, lymphomas, leukemias, and myeloma. She sees patients at The Christ Hospital Outpatient Center – Anderson & The Christ Hospital Outpatient Center – Red Bank.
Bringing over 18 years of hematology and medical oncology experience to the Christ program and Cincinnati area, Dr. Waselenko offers a unique approach, utilizing personalized, faith-based medicine in her practice to provide state-of-the-art care to patients with both blood disorders and cancer. She sees patients with virtually all facets of blood and cancer diagnoses. She also offers prayer to patients and families at their request.
Born in Kentucky, Dr. Waselenko grew up in Michigan, receiving her undergraduate degree in Biology at Wayne State University in 1988 and graduating with high honors. She then attended medical school while serving in the US Army at the F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Her academic achievements include being selected into Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Societies because of her undergraduate and graduate accomplishments.
Wanting to further her education, she went on to complete her internship in internal medicine at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, her residency in internal medicine at the Madigan Army Medical Center, and her fellowship in hematology and oncology at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. She received additional post-graduate training in translational research and bone marrow transplantation at Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore. She then served at two of the Army’s teaching hospitals, Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Proudly serving in the US Army for 17 years, Dr. Waselenko thoroughly enjoyed caring for military beneficiaries. After completing her service obligation, she left the Army to join the research team at Sarah Cannon Research Institute and Tennessee Oncology to develop a leukemia program and to lead a team in the development of a new stem cell transplant program. While there, she became Clinical Director of the Sarah Cannon Blood and Marrow Transplant Program as well as Director of Leukemia Research at the Sarah Cannon Research Institute.
A Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), the doctor is board-certified in medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Still involved in clinical trials through The Christ Hospital, Dr. Waselenko has conducted research and has been published in the areas of leukemia, lymphoma, stem cell transplantation, and the management of acute radiation syndrome. She holds membership status with the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and the American Society of Hematology.
