  • What can be done to help relieve the symptoms of gerd?

First of all I recommend a blend diet or a Mediterranean diet. Your doctor must do a h.pylori test to make sure there is no infection in your g.i. track. If the test is positive, he must treat u with 2 antibiotics + a proton pump inhibitor for 2 weeks, and then repeat the test in 6 weeks. If the repeat test is +, he must refer u for g.i. Endoscopy. If the initial test is negative, then your best treatment is mylanta+ Prilosec+ the above diet. I do advise a30 day course of lactobacillus acidophilus. Keep head of bed elevated with 2 to 3 pillows at night. READ MORE

  • Can excess body heat be the cause of my severe bleeding during periods?

Excess body heat should not affect your period. You may have an endocrine condition such as hyperthyroidism or you may have an hormonal imbalance. The American college of ob-gyn describes this condition as "Abnormal uterine bleeding.” There are many ways to correct this condition. You should see a gym m.d. and you should have the appropriate hormonal tests to include a pap and intravaginal ultrasound. If funds are not available, a simple combination birth control pill for at least 3 months may solve your condition. I strongly advise you see a gyn doctor. READ MORE

  • Could you recommend a diet for reducing triglycerades?

I do recommend the Mediterranean diet. It is a fabulous diet. It can be combined with cod liver oil, i.e., one tablespoon twice daily. It will raise your HDL and lower your LDL. One of my patients went from a triglyceride of 260 to 160 in 6 weeks. Aerobic exercise 3x weekly is very important, too. READ MORE

  • For someone with diarrhea, how often should oral rehydration salts be given?

First of all it is always necessary to know the cause of the diarrhea. Culture and sensitivity should always be done for ova and parasite. It is always necessary to make sure that the current medicine is not the cause of the diarrhea. Some medicine can cause an inflammation of the bowel known as pseudomembranous colitis. Diet is very important to control the diarrhea Kaopectate or peptobismol should be started in high doses. When the offending organisms are known, the appropriate antibiotics should be started. Autoimmune colitis such as celiac spruce should be ruled out. As far as rehydration is concerned, one or two glasses of hydrated fluids such as pedialyte should be given for each bowel movement. If the individual is elderly, I would advise one glass of hydrated fluid for each bowel movement in order to minimize the risk of CHF. As the individual gets better, he should be moved gradually from fluid to soft food to solid food within 24 to 48 hours. READ MORE

  • Feeling weak after the flu

It is not usual for people to feel weak after the flu. You must make sure you don’t have post viral pneumonitis. This condition may be asymptomatic or it may present as a rattle sound in your chest. If no symptoms, you may consider some oregano tea. Go to a health food store. Buy the oregano herb, boil it for 20 minutes, strain it in a tea sock to get the juice. Then, mix it with raw honey at a ratio of 50-50. Then, drink 1 tea cup every 4-6 hours. You may also take 500 to 1000 mg of Vitamin C twice daily. If your condition persists after 2 weeks, I do advise you see an MD for further evaluation. READ MORE
