Swollen and localised pain after done a deep cleaning; is this normal?
After any deep cleaning it is imperative to maintain proper home care. In addition it is usually beneficial to rinse with salt and water, Listerine, and or chlorhexidine which you can get from your dentist. I can't fix my teeth sensitivity. What do I do?
If your teeth are very sensitive and sensitive toothpastes are not working, there is very little you can do on your own. There are other remedies that we as dentists use. Some are topical, others seal the sensitive areas, and, in some cases, a laser is used. READ MORE
Do I have to be numb?
Depending on the depth of the filling, some people don't need to be numb. Others are sensitive to air or water on their teeth and therefore need numbing. Discuss the possibility with your dentist to customize the treatment to your needs and desires. READ MORE

I am still having pain after my wisdom tooth extraction last week. Why is this happening?
Depending on the severity of the extraction, it may be possible to have some pain after wisdom tooth extractions. It is possible, however, that you may have an infection or a dry socket. I suggest you follow up with the surgeon or another dentist familiar with such conditions. READ MORE
How effective are sensitivity toothpastes in treating the problem?
For minor sensitivity, these toothpastes can be very effective. However, if the sensitivity is constant and/or severe, you may need a more professional approach. In the office, there are a number of non-invasive procedures we can perform to eliminate sensitivities once the cause is diagnosed. READ MORE
I have some pain around the right side of my jawline. What could it be?
Pain and an inability to chew are usually not good signs. The cause could be coming from a tooth, the gums, or even the muscles or TMJ. I suggest you see a dentist ASAP. READ MORE
I am bleeding after 6 hours of my tooth extraction. What should I do?
"Some bleeding" is the key here which could be normal. Pain is also common. Pressure with gauze and ice should stop the bleeding and also help with the pain. DO NOT RINSE for the first 24 hours. If the bleeding is excessive contact your surgeon ASAP. READ MORE
Can cavities in one tooth affect other teeth as well?
Assuming you don't have cavities in your other teeth, the sensitivity is most likely from the filling. Depending on the depth of the filling, and the desensitizes used, improvement should be fairly quick - 3 to 5 days. If it persists longer than that you should have it checked. READ MORE

Because of the vast blood supply in the mouth, it would be unlikely to develop an infection. However, the signs of infection would include pain, swelling, and perhaps fever. READ MORE
How many times should I floss?
Flossing correctly will never hurt you. Flossing once per day and any time you feel food particles between your teeth would be ideal. READ MORE
What could be the reason behind the burning sensation in my gums?
Burning gums could be from chemical (peroxide), viral or fungal infection, or vitamin deficiency. You should get checked to find out which and develop a plan for relief. READ MORE
What are the natural ways to deal with tooth sensitivity?
If you in fact need a root canal, it usually isn't best to wait. The insuring infection may even be worse for your baby than the treatment. I suggest you have your dentist and OB speak to you to find the best treatment and timing. READ MORE
