Get to know Otolaryngologist Dr. Daniel Rontal, who serves the Farmington Hills, Michigan area at his private practice, The Rontal-Akervall Clinic, and several local hospitals. Dr. Rontal has become a recognized destination for patients with more complex problems of the nose and sinuses. These include nasal obstruction, sinusitis, decreased sense of smell and taste and tumors of the nasal sinuses and pituitary gland. His academic accomplishments have included research in inner ear embryology and tissue engineering for surgical reconstruction. He continues to advance the field with clinical trials directed at improving outcomes from sinus surgery. Dr. Rontal attended the University of Pennsylvania for medical school and completed his training in Otorhinolaryngology at the University of Michigan. Dr. Rontal is broadly trained in all areas of ear, nose, and throat conditions and treatment methods. He has been board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery in Otolaryngology. To stay abreast of developments in the field, Dr. Rontal maintains professional memberships in prestigious medical organizations, including the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Otolaryngology, as a Fellow. To reach a large amount of patients, Dr. Rontal also is affiliated with several local hospitals, including Providence-Providence Park Hospitals. Otolaryngology is a medical specialty focused on the ears, nose, and throat. It is also called otolaryngology-head and neck surgery because specialists are trained in both medicine and surgery. An otolaryngologist is often called an ear, nose, and throat doctor, or an ENT for short. This medical specialty dates back to the 19th century, when doctors recognized that the head and neck contained a series of interconnected systems.
