Get to know Nephrologist Dr. Ajay S. Rathore, who serves patients in Newport News, Virginia.

Passionate about the field of nephrology, Dr. Rathore is in practice with Riverside Renal Specialists in Newport News, Virginia. He can also be found on staff at Riverside Regional Medical Center.

Riverside Regional Medical Center is the most comprehensive medical facility in the region, offering advanced diagnostics and emergency treatment when patients need it most. The hospital offers the Peninsula’s only Level II Trauma Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. It is also recognized as a Chest Pain Center and a Comprehensive Stroke Center. Receiving his education in India, Dr. Rathore graduated with his medical degree from Gandhi Medical College in 2000. He then relocated to the United States, performing his residency in internal medicine at UM Prince George’s Hospital Center in 2015, and his Nephrology fellowship at University of Virginia. 

Licensed to practice medicine in Virginia, the doctor is board-certified in both nephrology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine that concerns itself with the kidneys: the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy.
