Consider bariatric surgery if no success working with a holistic functional medicine doctor. Ask your doctors about adding T3 and less T4 (Levothyroxine), also address why you need escitalopram as it can promote or worsen weight gain. You are very young and deserve to live a beautiful healthy life free of medications. Focus on your weight: consider a food sensitivity test, checking your adrenal hormones, checking and addressing your gut health barrier, start some supervised intermittent fasting and an adequate supervised fitness program.   • Why can't I feel anything?

    Have your Estradiol and Testosterone levels checked - I am pretty sure they are low - if that is the case consider stopping birth control pills and see if they come back up after 2-3 months. Your sex hormone levels are low when you are a teenager and getting better and better as you approach 20 but if your ovary is suppressed by birth control and your hormones were low due to age before you started the pill, that would be an easy explanation. Not all GYN docs believe in addressing hormone health or sexual health in a 18 year old - please consider finding one that has experience in such issues. READ MORE

  • How effective is the diaphragm as birth control?

    Diaphragm works well in combination with spermicide gel, and if used correctly can be very effective. Many young women choose to avoid BCPs and use condoms. If not used correctly it will not be effective - best to have an appt with your GYN doc for a fitting and education on how to use it. READ MORE

  • When is an epidural used?

    The epidural and is a patient choice. I prefer that labor is confirmed so ideally 4 cm the earliest to get an epidural, but when there are other signs like ruptured membranes I allow it even at 2-3 cm if the head is low, again if the patient requests it. Sometimes it is useful if the mother cannot relax and dilatation progressed slowly - the epidural can help. Many women prefer natural births and use IV medication like stadol or fentanyl as needed.   • Can a radiologist detect the presence of cancer?

    Please have her checked by a specialist or an OB/GYN - 10% of breast Cancers are not detected by mammograms. READ MORE

    It depends on your age, but there could some serious issues that can cause pain that could be treated early to avoid consequences. Please make an appointment with your GYN doc.     Yes if you are cleared by your OB doc you should be safe to fly. Keep in mind airlines tend to get nervous and need a clearance letter, and some airlines do not let you fly if over 28 weeks especially on very long flights due to the risk of labor. READ MORE

    The standard of care is to start pap smear at age 21 - please remind your doc about this - also we can now check STI tests in sexually active young women like you, under 21, by testing the urine so there is no need for a pelvic exam.     The placenta usually moves away from the opening of the uterus as the uterus grows and the pregnancy progresses- in the meantime avoid anything that can cause contractions as they are the cause the bleeding happens.
