With a broad educational background, Dr. Fernandes graduated from the Federal University of Pernambuco in Brazil, as one of the top ten students in her class. Upon relocating to the United States, she completed her research assignment in rheumatology at the University of Pennsylvania, and fulfilled a three-year residency in internal medicine at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Subsequently, she relocated to the Houston area in 1997 to attend a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the Baylor College of Medicine that she completed in June 2000. Immediately after, she continued her training with an additional fellowship in interventional cardiology at The Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center, which she completed in 2001.
Distinguished as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the doctor is board-certified in interventional cardiology, cardiovascular disease, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Very active in hospital and physician affairs in The Woodlands and Conroe area, Dr. Fernandes currently has hospital appointments at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital, Houston Methodist Hospital Medical Center, Memorial Hermann Woodlands Hospital, Conroe Regional Medical Center, and CHI St. Luke’s Health – The Woodlands Hospital.
