  • Three Things to Consider to Keep Your Teeth for a Lifetime

There are basically three things contributing to most of the problems we have with our oral health. The first is tooth decay caused by bacteria. Our mouths contain both good and bad bacteria, and if our teeth are not kept clean the bad bacteria increase and can cause dental caries or tooth decay....

  • Is root canal the only way to treat a tooth cavity?

Your tooth has nerve tissue in a chamber inside the tooth. If the decay is so bad that it goes into the nerve chamber and destroys the nerve then the nerve will need to be removed from the tooth to prevent infection. The process to remove the bad nerve and decay and fill the nerve chamber to keep the tooth is called a root canal treatment. READ MORE

  • How do I reduce plaque buildup?

One way would be to eat a healthier diet by eliminating processed foods which tend to adhere to the teeth longer. One can brush and floss but if not performed properly can be inefficient and let the plaque build up. Oral hygiene instruction can be a benefit. Ask your dentist or hygienist to help with that. They can also help you with what tools to use for your particular dentition and the problems particular to your mouth. READ MORE

  • Can effects from TMJ ever be reversed?

There are different stages that an internal derangement of the TMJ's can go through over time. The symptoms can come and go during these stages. • Can an infected tooth spread the infection to the other teeth as well?

An infection in your jaw from a tooth can be serious if left untreated. Depending on your situation the infection could be periodontal (referring to the bone and gums), or from the nerve of the tooth itself. Your dentist can diagnose the cause of the infection and you should have it treated. If left unchecked it could spread in your jaw and even to your face and head and cause more serious problems. The antibiotic will start to diminish the infection and possibly make it feel better but until the cause of the infection is treated, it could come back again. You need to remove the focal point of the infection, or what is causing it. Please follow up with your dentist promptly. READ MORE

  • Pain after a filling?

If it is still hurting you should return to your dentist and let him evaluate it. It could be the nerve of the tooth or it could be that the bite is too high on the new filling. Often times when the dentist checks the bite after filling the tooth you will still be numb and sometimes being numb makes it hard for you to bite correctly when he is checking the bite on the tooth. It might simply need to be adjusted better in the bite. READ MORE

  • Why do some dentists hurt during cleanings more than others?

It could be the gentleness of the person who cleaned your teeth but most likely it could be if your gums were inflammed and not healthy, they would be more sensitive during the cleaning. Once your gums are healthy future cleanings will be easier and more enjoyable for you. READ MORE

  • Is the fluoride treatment at the dentist really worth it?

Using a home rinse such as ACT will give you a little benefit of fluoride but ACT is basically a surfactant,( a soap to reduce the surface tension) allowing you to clean the plaque off easier. It does have some fluoride in it. Office fluoride treatments are stronger. The fluoride increases the strength of the tooth to resist decay. It will help to protect your teeth and the dental work you have invested in. It will also help to decrease tooth sensitivity. READ MORE

  • I can't fix my teeth sensitivity. What do I do?

Some tooth sensitivity can be treated with a sensitivity toothpaste. If your teeth are still sensitive there could be other problems, such as decay, bite trauma, wear, or nerve problems. It would be best to have your dentist look further into your problem to diagnose your condition. READ MORE

  • Is water-flossing as effective as regular flossing?

Water flossing is great to remove loose food particles from your teeth and gums and also helps stimulate your gums, but will not remove the plaque biofilms on the teeth as floss will. Use both. READ MORE

  • What if only one tooth is crooked?
