Get to know Vascular Surgeon Dr. Lina M. Vargas, who serves patients in Windermere, Florida.

Dr. Vargas is the only female, Spanish-speaking, Board-Certified vascular surgeon in the Greater Orlando area. She leads The Vascular Experts Florida in Windermere, Florida.

With the goal to create a practice that is patient-centered, Dr. Vargas devotes as much time as necessary to address every patient’s concerns, as well as to explore all options to achieve the best possible result in an ideal setting. She specializes in both superficial and deep venous diseases including spider vein treatment, venous insufficiency, deep venous thrombosis and obstruction, pelvic congestion syndrome, as well as dialysis access creation and maintenance and all aspects of arterial disease. She also specializes in cosmetic laser for skin rejuvenation, sun damage, and vascular lesions in all parts of the body as well as treatment of acne and rosacea with laser treatment.

Prior to opening The Vascular Experts Florida, Dr. Vargas served as a Clinical Associate in the Department of Vascular Surgery at Duke University in North Carolina. After relocating to Orlando, she joined the Vascular Institute of Central Florida – Advent Health Medical Group to offer world-class vascular surgery care to patients at Celebration Health.

In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Vargas is a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, the Vascular and Endovascular Surgical Society, the American Venous Forum, the Florida Vascular Society, the Midwestern Vascular Surgery Society, Women in Thoracic Surgery, and The Cardiothoracic Surgery Network. She holds privileges at Advent Health and is a distinguished member of the Pan American Medical Association, the Colombo American Medical Association, and other prestigious medical associations in the Central Florida area. 

Pertaining to her academic background, Dr. Vargas received her medical degree from Pontifical Xavierian University in Colombia. She then went on to complete her postgraduate training in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio where she also completed a research fellowship in Cardiac and Vascular Surgery. 

Following her training, she became Board-Certified in vascular surgery by the American Board of Surgery, which is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge. Additionally, she obtained her certification as a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Noted for her expertise, Dr. Vargas has an extensive background in research and has published articles and book chapters on topics including aortic dissection, peripheral arterial disease, aneurysm treatment and management of complications, acute limb ischemia, dialysis access, and arterial closure devices. She has presented her research in the United States as well as internationally. 

Vascular surgery is a surgical subspecialty in which diseases of the vascular system, including the arteries, veins, and lymphatic circulation, are managed by medical therapy, minimally-invasive catheter procedures, and surgical reconstruction. A vascular surgeon diagnoses, treats, and manages conditions in the arteries and veins, also called the blood vessels. These specialists treat a range of health problems, from spider and varicose veins to life-threatening aneurysms, and can help patients manage chronic conditions throughout their lives.

Dr. Vargas chose vascular surgery for the variety of conditions she treats and the different open and endovascular procedures that she can offer her patients.  She is proud of the relationships she is able to build with her patients and their family members as some of the vascular conditions require life-long treatment and surveillance.  Dr. Vargas attributes her success to being a great surgeon who is passionate about her field, but mostly, to be a caring and compassionate physician who devotes time to listening and addressing her patient’s questions and concerns.
