Does vertigo come with any symptoms or can I have a vertigo attack anytime?
The most common presentation and form of vertigo is that of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo characterized by brief sensations of spinning which is induced by rapid motion of the head. These types are usually transient and may be helped with vestibular rehabilitation exercises and possible Epley type maneuvers. Symptoms to be aware of include fluctuation of hearing associated with the dizzy episodes and ear fullness which may be a sign of endolymphatic hydrops. READ MORE
Does aging cause inflammation in the ears?
There incidence of dizziness in the aging population is higher than younger adults and some of the episodes may be due to positional episodes. Vertin or meclizine is an antihistamine that has a depressant action to reduce the symptoms of dizziness. Babies have typically smaller ear canals and they do produce the waxy secretion which is common. It may have a distinctive smell to some, but if not discolored or actively draining, this is not worrisome. READ MORE
Is there any remedy for swimmer’s ears?
Commonly, this may be due to retention of some external ear wax which trapped some water or other debris in the ear canal. Topical application of a "swimmers ear" solution of 1/2 rubbing alcohol and 1/2 vinegar may help. This dries the water from the ear canal and the vinegar helps to prevent infection. Other solutions to remove external ear canal wax can be found over the counter. READ MORE
I have a pus boil inside my nose. What can I apply to ease the pain?
These are usually an inflammation and infection of the inner nasal hair follicles and can be treated with a topical antibiotic ointment 2-3 times per day until resolution of the swelling and pain. READ MORE

These may be symptoms of a common cold or viral infection causing the symptoms. Mucus production of the respiratory system is usually increased as a protection of the body and sometimes the change in the mucus is noticed by a different smell as the mucus is thicker. What medicine can I take to prevent a throat infection?
There are no medications available for prevention of a throat infection. Most of these are viral and may happen after exposure to others who have a viral infection. The anti-viral medications such as Tamiflu reduce the symptoms of influenza, but are not usually prescribed for prevention of the flu. Influenza vaccinations may reduce the severity of the disease. How can I prevent a relapse of my tonsil infection?
Most of the throat infections may be initiated by a virus which can then activate dormant bacteria in the tonsil crypts. There may be other bacteria causing infections rather than Streptococcal infections are which are treated to reduce potential complications of strep. Is it safe to clean my ears with hydrogen peroxide?
Our grandmothers told us to never use anything smaller than the elbow to clean the ears for fear of impacting wax in the ear canal. Hydrogen peroxide is a common product that is generally safe to use for ear cleansing. Several drops to loosen any wax then can be gently removed with a small bulb syringe with warm water. READ MORE
After a strep throat infection, how long should I avoid sending my son to school?
After the antibiotics have been started and the child is improving with reduced pain, about 72 hours is safe to send the child back to school. He should not be near other children with reduced immunities. READ MORE
