Does fluoroscopy use radiation?
Yes. Fluoroscopy requires the use of low levels of radiation. Areas of the body not involved in the fluoroscopic examination can be shielded. READ MORE
Can you see bronchitis on an x-ray?
The bronchial wall has inflammatory changes in bronchitis. These may appear as thickening of the bronchial wall on CT scans. These changes, if they can be seen, are compatible with a diagnosis of acute or chronic bronchitis. READ MORE
How much radiation is safe for pregnancy?
If the radiographic examination is absolutely necessary, a radiation physicist should be consulted to determine how much radiation the baby would be receiving. This should be done prior to the examination. If the examination is not absolutely necessary, it should be avoided. READ MORE
Open MRI
In many cases, an open MRI does not provide comparable images when compared to a closed MRI, which results in diminished diagnostic accuracy. READ MORE
Why is my lung X-ray looking hazy?
As a radiologist myself, I am not sure what that means exactly. It probably means your radiologist thinks there is something in your chest cavity, but it is not standard terminology for describing findings in your chest. It is of little use to your provider in determining your care. READ MORE
Can an X-ray indicate the kidney functioning level?
X-ray follow-up would be of little value for your mother. Her status is better followed creatinine measurements. READ MORE
Can an X-ray detect cancer?
Are these calcified nodules soft tissue nodules? Were they on previous chest x-rays or are they a new finding and if they were present previously, have they changed? Your physician may want to get additional examinations (such as a chest CT) to obtain more information. READ MORE
My son is working in the hospital as a radiologist. Will the waves from the machines cause him any harm?
Your son should be fine. All radiation workers are monitored as to how much radiation dosage they receive and there are limits as to how much can receive over various time frames. I am a radiologist and so is my son and I have little concern over the amount radiation he will receive over his lifetime. READ MORE
I have undergone about 5 X-rays in the last 2 months for my spinal problem. Are there any risks?
There is some risk but it is minimal. It is more important that your health care providers get the information needed to treat you. READ MORE
Can cancer show up in a CT scan?
There is a very good chance a biopsy will be needed. READ MORE
What is the difference between an X-ray and a CT Scan?
A CT scan uses x-rays also. It is a specialized x-ray machine and demonstrates anatomy in a different manner than traditional x-ray machines. READ MORE
What is the difference between an X-ray and a CT scan?
The CT scan can demonstrate the anatomy of the chest in much greater detail than a normal chest X-ray. There are many areas in the chest which can not be seen and evaluated on a chest X-ray, but they are easily examined on the CT. READ MORE
I accompanied my mother for her X-ray and I didn’t know I was pregnant then. What should I do?
You should consult the radiology department. They may need to consult their radiation physicist to determine the dosage you received. I hope you were at least wearing protective shielding. READ MORE
My son suffered from severe pneumonia 5 months back. Will the X-rays that were taken cause him harm in the long run?
There is very little chance that there should be any long-term effects. The risk from the radiation received far outweighs the benefit he received from the treatment his providers were able to offer him by following the course of his illness with the X-rays. READ MORE
What if I'm allergic to contrast?
You would probably receive a non-contrast CT if that would supply enough information. Otherwise, depending on what area was to be studied, an ultrasound or an MRI might be attempted. If the Enhanced CT was absolutely necessary and if you were willing, an enhanced CT could be performed performed after being treated with steroids. READ MORE
