  • My son's eyes are red and sensitive to light. What can be the cause?

Red eyes unfortunately are a very non specific condition. Their cause can range from eye infections like conjunctivitis, to allergies, to a broken blood vessel (subconjunctival hemorrhage or even inflammation in the eyes know as iritis. This first two are the more likely in an 8 year old. But, regardless it is important that he see an ophthalmologist to determine the cause and the correct treatment. READ MORE

  • How long does astigmatism laser surgery last?

There is no specific time that Laser vision correction for astigmatism lasts. It is a permanent change. However, after surgery your eyes can change just like they did before surgery. Remember, you would change eyeglass or contact prescriptions every so often. Having surgery does not freeze your eye in time. So, sometimes, not always, a touch up is needed years down the road. • Can optometrists treat glaucoma, or should I go to an ophthalmologist?

A general or comprehensive ophthalmologist is the best place to start if you are concerned about glaucoma. READ MORE

  • Headaches from glasses. Is it serious?

It is possible the prescription that was given is too strong which then could lead to headaches. You should go back to where you were given the prescription and ask to do a refraction again or possibly even a cyclo refraction. READ MORE

  • Can crossed eyes be corrected?

Yes it is and it is important to see a pediatric ophthalmologist soon. Not fixing this can lead to permanent vision loss or compromise. READ MORE

  • Can an ophthalmologist write medication prescriptions?

Yes of course. They are physicians. Perhaps you are confusing them with ophthalmologists with opticians? READ MORE

  • Why are my eyes sore after contacts?

It is possible the contact lens is too tight, thus depriving the cornea of proper nutrients via the tear film. This can result in corneal edema and soreness at the end of the day. You need to have the fit of the contact lens checked and possibly change to a more permeable contact lens. READ MORE
