Is surgery necessary for herniated disk?
Not always. Most patients with herniated discs can be managed with nonoperative care. It is very important that you and your Primary Care doctor discuss your current complaints to ensure you have no "red flags." Then establish a care plan that will yield the highest results with the lowest risk for your situation. Can plans can be as simple as behavior modification with rest and anti-inflammatories but could also include physical therapy, chiropractic care, acupuncture and even interventional pain management. Hope you feel better soon! READ MORE

The answer to this question can fill entire textbooks. Please see your primary care provider and allow them to obtain an accurate history and perform a physical examination.
