A highly respected obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Sophocles has a deep understanding of the wide range of issues women face throughout their lives, from their teenage years to post-menopause. Currently, she serves as the Medical Director at Women’s Healthcare of Princeton, a women’s health practice known for its progressive and innovative approach in Princeton, New Jersey. Under her direction, the practice is dedicated to providing quality healthcare in a compassionate and nurturing environment.

After graduating with an honors degree in English from Duke University, Dr. Sophocles earned her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. She completed her residency training at Johns Hopkins /Greater Baltimore Medical Center, where she was heavily involved in promoting early development of umbilical cord blood banks and researching non-invasive ways to detect abnormal fetal chromosomes.

As a testament to her success, the doctor is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.

Recognized as a certified menopausal specialist, Dr. Sophocles is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG) and a Fellow of the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease. She is also an active member of the North American Menopause Society and the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health.

In early 2015, Dr. Sophocles was one of the first physicians to utilize laser therapy for the treatment of vaginal dryness and lichen sclerosus, establishing herself as a pioneering figure in this field. She is sought after as an opinion leader on issues of menopause and female sexual dysfunction and regularly teaches and trains physicians, both nationally and internationally. 

At the moment, she is dedicated to advancing non-invasive and non-hormonal gynecological procedures to treat vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, and lichen sclerosus.

Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts). An obstetrician-gynecologist specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases and disorders that affect women, such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, and menopause. Additionally, they work with expecting mothers throughout their pregnancies, during childbirth, and into postpartum.
