  • Can gum bleeding in a diabetic patient get serious?

Gum disease and diabetes have a direct relationship. Meaning, if you develop gum disease, you will not be able to control diabetes, and if you have uncontrolled diabetes, you can develop gum issues (gingivitis/ periodontitis). Bleeding gums is a sign of inflammation. Inflammation can lead to gum disease and bone loss. See a dentist to evaluate and treat as needed. READ MORE

  • My stitches done for gum grafting have become loose. What can I do?

I believe you have a typo in your text. When did you have the gum graft, 6 months ago or 6 days ago? It is okay for some stitches to come loose, sometimes they are dissolvable stitches... If non-absorbable stitches were placed, they might stretch a bit and become loose. If they are hanging, you will need to see the surgeon to evaluate, and remove if necessary.... The risk of these stitches becoming loose is that the tissue graft might move around and not take properly.... READ MORE

  • What is a dry socket?

Dry socket is an infection that develops after a tooth has been extracted. Usually, blood clot forms in the extraction socket. if for some reason this blood clot is lost, then dry socket can develop. Smoking can cause dry socket. To treat dry socket, the dentist will clean the site, place a medicated gauze and prescribe antibiotics. READ MORE

  • When can I return to work after gum graft surgery?

Are these 4 teeth on the same area? side by side? if yes, it is better to get them done all at the same time... Recovery from gum grafting: - you might develop some swelling and Bruising the first 4-5 days, the peak of inflammation is at 72 hours post surgery and after that it should get better..... - you might have discomfort on the the surgical site around the teeth that are being grafted and palatal donor site (if your own tissue is being used) which might last the first 5-7 days - Patients usually return to work as early as day after surgery unless they have a very physical job which requires picking up heavy lifting... - Cardio and heavy lifting activities should be postponed for 2 weeks to prevent swelling and bleeding complications READ MORE

  • I don't understand how I got Periodontal disease

Gum disease could be genetic. However, bacterial plaque buildup around teeth is the main factor for gum disease. Other factors are secondary and can contribute to gum disease, these are smoking, systemic disease such as diabetes, and occlusal (bite) problems.. Keep up with the regular hygiene appointments at the dentist office (every 4-6 months ) in addition to good daily oral hygiene to reduce your risk. READ MORE

  • Gum disease and heart disease

There is no confirmed direct link between gum disease and heart disease. However, there is an association which means gum disease will increase the risk of heart disease. The plaque around teeth is not the same as plaque found in heart vessels. However, the plaque and bacteria found around teeth, can cause an inflammatory reaction in the body which will increase proteins(C- Reactive protein) responsible for developing the plaque found in heart vessels..... Also, the same bacteria found in plaque buildup around teeth, have been found in heart tissue. READ MORE
