How is acupuncture an alternative treatment in dentistry?
Hi there, Very interesting! I have used acupuncture to deal with a patient’s gag reflex. Alternative medicine is interesting, but not a panacea to deal with all dental pain. Perhaps if the pin is muscular, it may help, but if tooth-related, you will need to see a dentist. Hope this helps. READ MORE
Which is better, root canal or implant?
Hello Interesting question. As health care providers we are to provide you with all the options and consequences allowing you to make the final informed decision. That being said, I personally feel if a tooth is given a fair to good prognosis I would try and keep it. However, if the prognosis is poor to guarded, and implant may make more sense. Root canals have been given a bad rap, but scientifically are sound and do work. Hope this helps. READ MORE
Is it possible to choke on the water in the dental office?
Hello, Yes, it’s a somewhat common fear. Some options to help your grandmother: the dentist can use a rubber dam or isolite system to help minimize the water in the mouth. If the anxiety borders fear, she may require sedation. The body has natural reflexes, which will obviously prevent choking. This is more a psychological issue, so reassurance is important. Have a consult with the dentist and hopefully he can create trust, showing care and empathy. I wish your grandmother well. Hope this helps. READ MORE

Is surgery a treatment for TMJ?
Hi there, TMD is usually treated with a mouth guard. Different types are available and your dentist can determine what’s best for you. Botox can help if it is muscular in nature. Anti-inflammatory and warm compress helps in conjunction with mouth guard. The last resort is surgery and it is not always successful. I would recommend conservative treatment with a guard first. Hope it helps. READ MORE
Why do dentists use X-rays?
Hi, Dental X-rays are paramount in diagnosis in dentistry. We use them to diagnose cavities between teeth. Use them to diagnose dental infections, etc. X-rays in cracked tooth syndrome will tell us the severity of the crack, i.e., its depth, as the bone will drop at the site. Is the tooth infected? Can we salvage the tooth.... Depending on the signs and symptoms, an X-ray may be required. Hope this helps. READ MORE
Do cavity fillings require anesthesia?
Hi there, Some people will choose local freezing for fillings while others don’t want it. It comes down to your threshold of pain and anxiety. If the cavity is within the enamel or superficial, there is no need for freezing, but if deeper in the dentin - inner Syed by nerves - you will feel something and freezing is a choice. Hope this helps. READ MORE
Can I have orthodontic advice for class 3 malocclusion?
Hi, Hope the move to LA went well!! Class III is a difficult task...the diagnosis is very important. As I am not an orthodontist, I can only give you my thoughts. Depending on the ceph analysis, we can determine what the growth pattern is for the child; if the child is a vertical growth pattern with an anterior open bite, it will be advisable to wait till after her growth spurt, as her continued growth will result in a failed orthodontic treatment, i.e., open bite reoccurs. Sometimes, regardless of interceptive attempts, jaw surgery may still be required. Another reason to possibly wait till after growth. Again, very difficult to assess without all the information. But do seek out a reputable orthodontist in your new neighborhood and ask all your questions. Hope this helped. READ MORE
