Very tight neck
Muscles move bones, bit bones or vertebra provide structure and shape to the body. So, in most cases, yes an adjustment will alleviate your neck pain. Get evaluated. Most insurance covers it. If not, ask the clinic for a cash discount for 3-6 visits. READ MORE
Can excess weight cause spine problems?
2/3 of our body weight is placed on our last disc, L5, respectively. So, yes, being overweight could cause back pain, but even more so, being sedentary. Get back into a routine of walking, doing some yoga, and even some dancing or tai chi. In the mean time, go visit a recommended chiropractor. That is our specialty. READ MORE
My father is suffering from severe back pain. Can it be treated with manual adjustment of the spine?
Prostate issues can cause back pain as well. Have him get evaluated and maybe an X-ray of the lower spine just to be sure...before starting care. 3-6 visits is a typical course of care with a good chiropractor. READ MORE
My mother has developed a problem of shaking hands. What could be the reason behind it?
The age group can display Parkinson type shaking in the hands, but also weakness. Gait, posture, and being able to stay still at rest may determine if it is Parkinson's Disease. Lead toxicity also affects the nervous system. If accompanied with weakness, one should consider getting checked for ALS. READ MORE
My father is suffering from severe back pain. Can it be treated with manual adjustment of the spine?
Any good chiropractor worth his or her salt, should be able to handle an acute back pain patient....pending the results of an examination. Arthritis, bone spurs, and stiffness can really lock someone up, so some physiotherapy may be necessary before even considering manipulation. READ MORE
My back hurts when I sit down. Why?
2/3 of your body weight rests on your L5 (last disc) disc. Radiating pain isnt something to ignore. Radiating pain is a sign of nerve irriatation, not a ibuprofen deficiency. Sitting is the new smoking. Sitting is horrible for the body. It shortens the anterior muscles, keepong them contracted and short. While stretching (shutting off) the posterior muscles. It doesnt take a strain or a sprain to cause pain. Poor posture, rounding your back, one legged standing, and even crossing your legs and sleeping in odd positions can aggravate back pain. Go see a good chiro and if he takes a good intake, he or she is surely going to come up with a workable hypothesis, and a short-term treatment plan with an outcome in mind. READ MORE
Can a chiropractor relieve muscle pain?
There are over 300 published techniques in chiropractic. I have had several episodes of chiropractic care because of these spasms...with great results. The chiropractic adjustment is just one way to get the muscles to quiet down, there is ultra-sound, e-stim, trigger point therapy, dry needling, cupping, massage, eschemic compresssion, PNF, ART, PFS, Ice, Heat, FAR infrared, stretching, exercise, Magnesium supplementation, hydrotherapy, pin and stretch, cryotherapy...and so many other modalities to help with muscle pain. Shop around until you find the one that works foe you. READ MORE
Why does my back crack so much during an adjustment?
Your doctor should have explained this; you're simply hearing built up gas (most likely nitrogen) in the joints being released into the surrounding joint space. READ MORE
Back exercises after adjustments?
Many Yoga type poses are great for increasing flexibility. Actually, i recommend to my patients to search their App Store, and type in Free Yoga, and try these poses out to your favorite songs. I recommend 20 mins of stretching everyday. Or 20 mins of stretching for every hour of exercise. Folks get wrapped around the axle on whether they should stretch before, during, or after exercise...the correct answer...there isnt one. I recommend a little before, a little in the middle, and the bulk of stretching after you're done. Cobra, Child's Pose, Butterfly stretch, Hurdlers stretch, cat/camel, and whole body vibration via a vibration plate is a great place to start. Advanced exercises are available when you are ready. Is it bad to suddenly stop chiropractic care?
I started chiropractic treatement when I was young. And I am now 47 and get adjusted about 3x a month...however I joined the Marines and didn't get chiropractic treatment for almost 7 years. If you see the benefits - continue. If you don't, go somewhere else. Many chiropractors offer a monthly fee for wellness plans. These arent specific to pain centered care, its more like a tune-up. You rely on the doc to correct subluxations, small misalignments or fixations that can cause problems over the long haul, not necessarily noticeable in the short-term. I hope that answers your questions. For example a $159 plan would cover 4 wellness chiropractic adjustments per month in our clinic. READ MORE
Do chiropractors typically take x-rays?
It is not uncommon for a chiropractor to take X-rays. Oregon for example has treatment standards, we are not recommended to take X-rays unless trauma and suspected fracture, instead it recommends treating for a few weeks before requesting X-rays. There are over 300 published techniques in chiropractic. Several take X-rays almost every visit, or during a new phase in care. Some even X-ray before and after adjustments. We now are trying to reduce excess X-ray exposure to patients. The newer digital X-ray machines use less time to take an image, and this results in less radiation exposure. We are happy your chiropractor made a judgement call when evaluating you. It is not uncommon for patients to ask for an X-ray before starting care, but ultimately it is up to the doctor to make that decision. In Health, Michael LoGiudice, DC READ MORE
Is scoliosis preventable?
Bilateral Exercise, swimming, stretching, yoga, and maintenance chiropractic care may identify and help prevent scoliosis or keep it from getting worse. Its true that is often appears in adolescence, the body is having massive growth spurts during these years, leading to bones growing faster than muscles...diet and nutrition and eating organic is probably something every parent should incorporate immediately. Scoliosis seems to idiopathic and most literature will say unknown cause. The spine and nervous system is the very first tissue that is formed in utero...how many mothers are pregnant for 4-6 weeks before they realize they are preganant. What is missing? Prenatal vitamins...Folic Acid and B complex vitamins...detox, and cleansing before you get pregant is probably the best preventative advice I can give moms that want to get pregnant. Once discovered, scoliosis is managed, not cured. READ MORE
Can't turn head right after alignment
If by alignment, you mean chiropractic adjustment, then you should call your chiropractor and express your concern. A chiropractic adjustment relaxes the muscles around a stuck joint. Life is dynamic, we move, we abuse our body. If this happened several days after your adjustment, it may not be related at all to the adjustment. Shooting pain down your arm is always something to be concerned about. Express your concerns with your doctor, get it fixed. Sounds like a specific adjustment would set you straight and get you pain-free again. FYI, an adjustment can be deep,, and it can also be not deep enough. If you ever feel discomfort after a treatment, you ahould call them right away. READ MORE
Do chiropractors offer free consultations?
Some do, some don't. It's hit or miss. Call the chiropractor before heading to your first visit and ask. New chiropractors are more likely to offer a free consult, compared to a doctor that is more established. READ MORE
