Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Ariel Grajales-Cruz, who serves patients in Florida.

A seasoned hematologist-oncologist, Dr. Grajales-Cruz is affiliated with the Moffitt Department of Malignant Hematology and Cellular Therapy at Memorial Healthcare System. His clinical and research interests include lymphomas and plasma cell dyscrasias, such as multiple myeloma, monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance, plasmacytoma, primary systemic amyloidosis and Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia.

Academically, Dr. Grajales-Cruz received his medical degree from Universidad Central del Caribe in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the Veterans Administration Caribbean Healthcare System, where he also served as Chief Resident. Most recently, he completed a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the Moffitt Cancer Center/University of South Florida.

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in medical oncology and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Licensed to practice medicine in Florida, Dr. Grajales-Cruz can be found on staff at Memorial Hospital West and Memorial Regional Hospital.

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of blood diseases and cancers such as iron-deficiency anemia, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, leukemia, and lymphoma.

On a more personal note, Dr. Grajales-Cruz is fluent in English, Spanish, and French.
