Dr. Dressler is a licensed psychiatrist & an esteemed Jungian analyst providing individual psychotherapy to adults ages forty and above. He currently works from his home in Roxbury, Connecticut.
Garnering over five decades of hands-on experience, he works closely in the areas of Jungian psychology, psychotherapy, life coaching, clinical supervision, life transitions, spiritual guidance, and more.
After starting his higher education as a chemistry major, Dr. Dressler found he could not envision working as a chemist, and had an epiphany in 1959. He woke up one morning and realized with certainty that he was going to become a psychiatrist. He completed his medical training at The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 1964. Upon graduation, he served his internship at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center in 1965, followed by his residency in psychiatry at Strong Memorial Hospital in 1968. He then served his fellowship within the Department of Psychiatry at the Yale University School of Medicine and was invited to join the faculty where he was an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry from 1969 to 1973, publishing 25 academic papers.
In 1973, Dr. Dressler became the first Chief of Psychiatry at the New Britain General Hospital in Connecticut, and an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. While there, he became a Certified Jungian Analyst training in New York City, leaving his position at the hospital in 1992 for a private practice in Woodbury, Connecticut.
A Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, he is a member of the Connecticut Medical Society, the Connecticut Psychiatric Society, and the New York Association of Analytic Psychology.
Noted for his achievements, he is also board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.
Inspired by the writings of Carl Jung, Dr. Dressler believes in the importance of being in alignment with the universe. In his eyes, everything has always fallen together for him. He has found additional success through his writing, authoring the pamphlet “Guidelines for a Productive, Meaningful and Fulfilling Life: Practical Wisdom Gained from 50 Years of Clinical Practice and 80 Years of Life Experience and Self-Reflection” in 2019.
