Dr. Edgardo S. Santos, a distinguished and highly respected medical oncologist specializing in lung cancer diagnosis, management, and research, practices at The Oncology Institute of Hope and Innovation (TOI) located at Fort Lauderdale 17th Street in Florida. With an impressive background and extensive experience in the field of oncology, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his patients and colleagues.

In addition to his clinical practice at TOI, Dr. Santos holds the position of Clinical Associate Professor at Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine/Florida Atlantic University, where he actively contributes to the education and training of future medical professionals. His commitment to advancing the field of oncology is further exemplified through his various leadership roles and affiliations with esteemed organizations.

Dr. Santos is not only the Medical Director at Broward County, Florida for TOI, but also serves as the Vice-President of the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology (FLASCO) and President of the FLASCO Foundation. He is a dedicated member of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC), contributing his expertise as a member of the Membership Committee and Editorial Group ILCN. Moreover, Dr. Santos plays a vital role in shaping the future of oncology as a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and its 2023-2024 ASCO-SEP Item Writing Task Force.

Having earned his Medical Degree from the University of Panama School of Medicine, Dr. Santos completed his internship and residency training in internal medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida, followed by a fellowship in hematology/oncology at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center in Miami. Throughout his career, he has held academic positions at prestigious institutions such as University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Tulane University Health Sciences Center, where he made significant contributions to research and education.

As a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (FASCO), Dr. Santos continues to be actively involved in professional organizations such as the American Society of Hematology, the American Association for Cancer Research, the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology, the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, and the European Society for Medical Oncology. His dedication to improving patient outcomes and advancing oncology research sets him apart as a leader in the field.

Dr. Santos’ dedication to his patients and his passion for oncology is evident in his numerous accomplishments and recognitions. His extensive publication record, comprising over 100 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, reflects his commitment to advancing the understanding and treatment of lung cancer. 

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Santos has been honored with awards such as “Best Fellow” in the Hematology/Oncology Division and the Department of Medicine as well as “The Spirit Award” by the American Cancer Society, underscoring his outstanding contributions to the field.
