Get to know Gastroenterologist and liver diseases specialist Dr. Santa Nandi, who serves the population of Long Island, New York. Dr. Santa Nandi graduated with her Medical Degree from the University of Calcutta in India in 1987, giving her over three decades of experience in her field. After obtaining her Medical Degree she relocated to the United States where she completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the Long Island Jewish Health System, The Long Island campus for The Albert Einstein College of Medicine at the time. Wanting to further her training she then completed her Gastroenterology Fellowship, also at the same campus for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Nandi is certified in Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. To stay up to date in her field she remains a professional member of the American Medical Association and has been accepted as a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology. Dr. Nandi currently practices in her private office which will be moving to a new and more comfortable space starting March 12, 2019. Her new location will be at 400 South Oyster Bay Road, Suite 307, Hicksville, NY 11801, and she is excited for her patients to experience this exciting new transition with her. Dr. Nandi is also affiliated with Northwell Plainview Hospital where she holds Consulting and Admitting privileges. Gastroenterology is the study of the normal function and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon and rectum, pancreas, gallbladder, bile ducts and liver. It involves a detailed understanding of the normal action (physiology) of the gastrointestinal organ system. It includes common and important conditions such as colon polyps and cancer which can be prevented by timely screening, hepatitis and other liver diseases, gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn), peptic ulcer disease, colitis, gallbladder and biliary tract disease, nutritional problems, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and pancreatic disorders. In essence,the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive organs comprise the study of Gastroenterology. Dr. Nandi attributes her professional success to the fact that she works from her heart, her work constitutes one of her many passions and her patients are important to her. When not working, she enjoys classical dance, gardening, and being out on the ocean in a kayak.
