Dr. Ortega is a board-certified hematologist-oncologist with over 30 years of experience in his field. He is currently serving patients at Mid Florida Cancer Centers in Orange City and Sanford, Florida. During his academic career, Dr. Ortega earned his medical degree from the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University in Santo Domingo. He then went on to relocate to the United States, where he completed his residency in internal medicine at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee. Thereafter, he completed his fellowship in hematology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, New York, followed by his fellowship in oncology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York.
In order to remain up to date in his field, Dr. Ortega maintains membership with several professional organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Medical Association, and the Pan American Medical Association. He is also triple board-certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Over the years, Dr. Ortega has completed research trials with the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center.
