In regards to his educational background, Dr. Hawkins received his medical degree and Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) from Washington University. He then went on to complete his internship and residency in radiation oncology at Washington University - Barnes-Jewish Hospital in 1981 and 1987, respectively.

A member of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, the doctor attained board certification in radiation oncology through the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The mission of the ABR is to serve patients, the public, and the medical profession by certifying that its diplomats have acquired, demonstrated, and maintained a requisite standard of knowledge, skill, and understanding essential to the safe and competent practice of diagnostic radiology, radiation oncology, and medical physics.

Holding a license to practice medicine in Louisiana, Dr. Hawkins is affiliated with Children’s Hospital, Our Lady of the Angels Hospital, and Tulane Health System.
