Can braces tighten loose teeth?
The only way braces would tighten your teeth would be if the looseness was due to the teeth hitting together incorrectly in the first place. READ MORE
How long does it take for teeth to shift with braces?
It really depends on your bite. The case could take 6-24 months. You should begin to see movement within the first two months READ MORE
Can scaling damage your teeth?
No, not at all. It is unusual for a 21 Year old to have periodontal pockets deep enough to need scaling. If you do have periodontal pockets 5mm or more, you should definitely get the scaling and follow up with regular cleanings every 3 months. READ MORE
How do you flush out a dry socket?
Warm salt water rinses, but more importantly, go back to your dentist and ask him/her to put in Dry Socket Medication. READ MORE
Is it normal for a crown to be sensitive?
I suggest you go back to your dentist. A few days of sensitivity is not unusual with a new restoration, but by now things should be feeling better. READ MORE
Do crowns on front teeth look natural?
Yes, they should be practically undetectable. There are a number of excellent types of crowns that do not contain metal (zirconium, Emax, etc.) are very strong and should blend in very well with your other teeth. Discuss with your dentist the type of crown he/she will use. Ask to see photos of other crowns that he/she has placed. Ask to see the crown in your mouth BEFORE it is cemented. This way, you know what you are getting before it is permanently cemented. READ MORE
Are dental implants long-lasting?
Yes, They should last a very long time if you keep them clean and see you dentist regularly so they can be monitored. I would have this conversation with you dentist. READ MORE
Are zirconia crowns more expensive than porcelain?
Generally not more expensive. They are strong and long lasting. They are not more expensive in my practice. READ MORE
Does coconut oil whiten teeth?
Not to my knowledge. If you are only 23, Crest White strips may work, but for predictable results, see a dentist who can evaluate the actual color of your teeth and recommend the best whitening option. You also want to make sure your mouth is healthy BEFORE you whiten. Whitening with open cavities could be painful. READ MORE
What could be the cause of a white tongue?
Having a white tongue should not cause you much concern. Some tongues are smooth, others are rough and attract food that get caught in the surface of the tongue. This is normal. Buy a tongue scraper and use it daily. You will be surprised what comes off your tongue and your breath will be better, too! READ MORE
How can I protect my teeth from cavities?
Floss once a day. Stay away from soda (including diet) and sports drinks. They are very acidic and probably cause more cavities than candy. If you are cavity prone, ask your dentist to write a prescription for Prevedent 5000. It has five times the fluoride of ordinary toothpaste and can make a big difference. READ MORE
What happens if you don't wear your retainer?
Your teeth will most likely shift back and the results of your orthodontics will begin to unravel. READ MORE
Is it ever too late to get dental implants?
No, it is absolutely not too late. I had a 92 year old patient who had difficulty chewing and had 2 implants placed. He did great and was thrilled he did it. The majority of the implant patients I treat are over 50. READ MORE
What are inflamed taste buds?
Sometimes your tongue may burn from Colgate toothpaste. Try changing toothpastes and stay away from spicy foods. READ MORE
Is it normal for a tooth to hurt after a filling?
You should call your dentist and make an appointment to see him/her ASAP. A little cold sensitivity is normal. Anything more than that should be evaluated. READ MORE
My daughter's braces are too tight. Is there anything I can do?
Anti inflammatory medication such as Advil or Motrin. It is common to feel some discomfort for a day or two after the braces are tightened. If it continues, contact the orthodontist. READ MORE
Is a baking soda rinse safe for my teeth?
Yes baking soda is safe for your teeth. It is not abrasive, but it really doesn't do anything special for your teeth and gums. It also doesn't contain fluoride which prevents cavities. READ MORE
What can be done for chipped tooth?
Bonding is the least expensive solution. If the chip is small, then bonding would be the best choice. If it is a large chip, a porcelain veneer or crown would be the best long term solution. READ MORE
How can I get rid of teeth stains caused due to smoking?
Go to the dentist and have your teeth professionally cleaned. Smoker's toothpaste can be very abrasive and damage your teeth over time. READ MORE
How long will I have to wait for my next session after first round of root canal?
As long as you don't lose the temporary filling, 1-4 weeks should be fine. If the tooth starts to bother you before the second appointment, I would give the office a call. READ MORE
