Pioneering Expert in Urology and Sexual Medicine Brings Decades of Experience to Patients in New Jersey

Dr. Steven Shoengold, a distinguished urologist with over four decades of experience, has been recognized as a Top Urologist by the Consumers’ Research Council of America. As the Director of the Center for Female and Male Sexual Medicine, a division of Summit Health, he combines advanced technology with unparalleled expertise to provide innovative solutions that exceed patient expectations.

Since beginning his practice in 1981, he has established himself as a leading authority in sexual medicine. His extensive expertise encompasses a broad range of conditions, including erectile dysfunction, penile prosthesis, low-intensity shock wave treatment, men’s health issues, female sexual medicine, minimally invasive procedures for prostate enlargement, overactive bladder, prostate cancer, and urology related to spinal cord injuries.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Shoengold holds several esteemed positions within the medical community. He serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Urology at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and is the Chairman of the Division of Urology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. His role as the Director of Urology Education at Saint Barnabas Medical Center further exemplifies his commitment to advancing urological education. He also contributes his expertise as a Urology Consultant at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation and is actively involved with Short Hills Surgery Center and The Stone Center of New Jersey.

Dr. Shoengold’s dedication to advancing the field of urology is further highlighted by his past membership on the Board of Directors of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH), where he is recognized as one of only 40 physician fellows in the United States.

Academically, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Rutgers University, where he was honored as Phi Beta Kappa and named in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. He completed his medical degree at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, followed by surgical and urology residencies. His specialized training in female and male sexual medicine includes preceptorships with notable experts Dr. Irwin Goldstein and Dr. Andrew Goldstein.

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), Dr. Shoengold is board-certified in urology by the American Board of Urology, which strives to maintain the highest standards of urological care. His professional affiliations include the Sexual Medical Society of North America, the International Society of Sexual Medicine, the Society of Prosthetic Surgeons, the New Jersey Medical Society, and the Essex County Medical Society, among others.

With a wealth of knowledge and a passion for patient care, he has contributed to numerous publications and has been a sought-after speaker at local, regional, and national conferences. His involvement as a past President of the Prostate Cancer Center of New Jersey showcases his leadership in addressing critical issues in urology, particularly concerning advanced prostate cancer.

Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Shoengold enjoys an active lifestyle, participating in golf, tennis, fitness training, theater, traveling, and competing in triathlons. His dedication to both his profession and personal life exemplifies the balance he strives to maintain.
