  • Can you suggest a treatment for the pain in my calf muscles?

thank you for your question. There are multiple possible reasons for calf pain. Some are related to the spine and the other is dealing with the muscle itself. Stretching the muscle itself is typically a good start to addressing any calf pain. If after a couple of days of stretching, the pain does not change or gets worse, it is advised to consult a chiropractor to have it further evaluated. READ MORE

  • My daughter sits with her back slanted. How can her posture be corrected?

Thank you for the question. Posture is often involuntary and the lowest energy position that our bodies end up in. This is why, regardless how many times you tell her, she will not maintain the better posture until she strengthens the muscles in her core. A great exercise to start with is called the bird dog exercise. An example of it can be found here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgOuR7YrwtM READ MORE

  • How is back soreness treated?

Thank you for the question. Soreness in the back that is made better when you lay flat is something that we treat in our office on a regular basis. These symptoms are often caused by restrictions in the joints in the spine. This is best treated with a chiropractic adjustment. After an examination, the chiropractor will determine if an adjustment is the best treatment option. Seeing a chiropractor is the best place to get started with resolving this issue. • Why do I have back pain while eating?

Thank you for your question. The likely cause of your pain is called referred pain. This means that you might be experiencing pain or discomfort in another area of your body, like your stomach, that can refer pain to your back. It can also be caused by improper posture when sitting. Ensure that your back and butt are against the chair when sitting and that you are not leaning forward. If this does not help, it is advised to consult a physician for a proper examination and diagnosis. READ MORE

  • How does spinal manipulation work?

Thank you for your question. The term spinal manipulation refers to a treatment performed primarily by chiropractors (though some PTs and DOs perform something similar) where using the hands or tools, a force is applied to the spine to restore motion to joints that have become restricted. Spinal manipulation can be beneficial in not only restoring motion and reducing restrictions but also in reducing pain by allowing the body to function properly. READ MORE

  • I have pain in my hips due to excess weight. What can I do?

Thank you for your question. Weight gain, in the short term, is rarely the cause of pain but instead, often exacerbates existing problems. • I have slight weakness in my muscles along with pain in the forearms. What could this be?

Thank you for the question. Pain on one side of the body, especially the arms, is very commonly caused by a problem in back and neck. When muscles and joints in the upper back and neck are not working properly, the resulting dysfunction can cause pain and weakness in the arm. The specific location of the dysfunction depends on where in the back the problem comes from. Another common cause of forearm pain and weakness is tennis elbow if it is on the outside of the elbow to the hands. Here is our youtube channel, I will be doing a video on forearm pain. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMWQtawahy7vj6SoySDFw-g READ MORE

  • Can vitamin deficiency cause muscle stiffness?

Thank you for your question. Muscle stiffness can be a result of many things including water intake, muscle recovery from overexertion, or vitamin and mineral deficiencies. There are two groups of minerals that our bodies use to contact a muscle, sodium and potassium, and calcium and magnesium. When any one of these minerals is out of balance, a shortage or excess, the muscles can become stiff. One that I typically recommend to all of my patients that are experiencing muscle stiffness especially before bed is to take a magnesium and calcium supplement and drink plenty of water. These three things can have a large impact on decreasing muscle stiffness and helping you get back to normal. As always, consult your physician before making any changes to your regime. READ MORE

  • My son suffers from ADHD. Should I bring him to a chiropractor?

Thank you for your question. Children that experience ADHD can be benefited by chiropractic. Removing joint fixations in the spine can help reduce the physical stress of the body which in turn can help the child feel better. This can have the benefit of reducing their hyperactivity. There are other chiropractors that will say that chiropractic can 'cure' or 'treat' ADHD but there is no scientific evidence that supports this. READ MORE

  • I have a pain in my neck every morning. Can you tell me what could it be?

Thank you for your question. Pain in the neck first thing in the morning is often a result of joints and muscles in your neck and upper back not functioning properly as well as an improper sleep position (too much or too little of a pillow). First, check that your neck is straight when you are sleeping on your side or has a small curve in it if you are on your back. (If you sleep on your stomach, this can be the cause of your neck pain) Second, adjust your pillows and sleep position to find the best position for your neck. If the problem is not coming from your sleep habits but instead from improper moving joints and muscles, seeing your chiropractor is advised. They can provide an examination to find the cause of the problem and provide treatments that help. If you do not have a chiropractor, here is a list of evidence-based chiropractors from around the world. http://www.forwardthinkingchiro.com/member-map-1/#!map Finally, here are some exercises that may be beneficial in reducing the occurrence of your neck pain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0jF81SYLZY&t=1s READ MORE

  • What can I do for muscle soreness around my thighs?

Thank you for your question. We use up to 200 muscles just to talk a step forward! Though any of these muscles can result in problems with our walking, soreness is indicative of an overused muscle. First, you want to rule out any change in activity or weight, and any strength training as the possible trigger for the soreness. After these have been ruled out, the most likely problem is with your gait (walking form). Because we do not think about firing the 200 muscles in a coordinated motion every time we take a step, our bodies have developed patterns that make the thought process easier. On occasion, faulty movement patterns can become a part of our routine which can lead to a change in the forces the body applies to various joints and muscles. All of these changes can lead to muscles that are overworked and become. A chiropractor specializes in musculoskeletal condition and can help you find the source of the problem. • Can I visit a chiropractor to get my sinuses drained?

Thank you for your question. Moving to a new city can be difficult on the sinuses. Chiropractic can be helpful by allowing the neck and related musculature to move and function correctly, thus allowing the sinuses to drain better. If you are wanting your sinuses drained, it is best to see an Ears, Nose, and Throat (ENT) doctor. For long-term relief, go to your local farmers market and grab some raw honeycomb (sometimes grocery stores have them) and chew on a piece of it like gum daily for a few months. This will help your body be exposed to a small quantity of the allergens that are present in your area (make sure the honey is from within 15 miles of your house) and allow you build up a resistance to them. • What is the lump that I can feel right behind my neck?

Thank you for your question. Without seeing you, it is difficult to 100% diagnose, but based on what you have said, I believe this is a Dowager's hump. It is a small, abnormal curvature of the thoracic spine. These rarely are anything but a cosmetic problem, these humps can lead to other problems both above and below that can cause pain and decreased function. A chiropractor will be able to properly diagnose what it is and give you some exercises to help prevent it from getting larger and possibly improve it. Understand that this rarely requires a large amount of visits and is not something that needs to be "corrected", but rather managed. READ MORE

  • Can a chiropractor help me with my lower back pain?

Thank you for your question and I am sorry to hear about your pain. Chiropractors are musculoskeletal experts and our "bread and butter" is low back pain. A good chiropractor can help you identify what is happening with your back as well as the best treatment options to fix it, which may include adjustment and exercises. READ MORE
