  • What happens if the decayed tooth is not removed?

All decayed teeth do not have to be removed. We save many teeth with decay. If it is treatable, it is best to keep it. If into the nerve and painful, we can still treat it with root canal therapy and post and core and crown. If the decay goes too far into the the tooth and toward or below the gum line, it must be removed even if no pain or you will get an access and bacteria into you bloodstream toward your heart or artificial joints. Follow your dentist's advice. READ MORE

  • Do braces move your teeth every day?

Best to get a consultation with an orthodontist. You ask good questions. Yes braces move teeth but we want them to be moved very very slowly so as not to lose bone. One of my patient had a dentist move her teeth too fast and she has very short roots now. Choose an good orthodontists. Check their reviews. READ MORE

  • Is bone grafting painful?

No it is not painful. Many times you will have the surgeon give you meds to "put you out" . It is not general anesthesia it is called Sedation. They also use local anesthesia. My patients report very little post operative discomfort. Hope this helps. READ MORE

  • Can gum disease spread to other teeth?

Yes. It usually starts with the multicoated posteriors and left untreated will spread forward to the bicuspids, etc. Get the periodontal care you need if you want to keep your health and keep your teeth. The bacteria can get into your bloodstream and go to artificial values or joints and even into the heart. READ MORE

  • Can retainers be used instead of braces?

Generally no. Retainers are to retain the teeth in position. You might be a candidate for Invisalign, which is an orthodontic treatment with several appliances that look like retainers. READ MORE

  • Is brushing your teeth 3 times a day bad?

I highly recommend it. Bacteria plaque forms on the teeth. If this is not removed it causes all kinds of problems from bone loss, decay and can get into the bloodstream and can harm the heart. We must premeditate people with joint replacement because these bacteria are harmful to joints. Everything is connected in the body and it is medically necessary to floss often. READ MORE

  • How long after tooth filling can I drink?

You may drink anything as long as you don't get it all over you while numb. This goes for composites and amalgams. Chewing is another matter. No chewing with amalgam for at least three hours. Chew anything with composite. READ MORE

  • How many stages of braces are there?

I like going to an orthodontist. They are better able to answer your questions. Most give a free consultation before accepting you as a patient. READ MORE

  • Is composite bonding cheaper than veneers?

Veneers are more expensive and composites are less so. But composites may darken with time and stain whereas veneers never change color. I say fix it once and fix it right. READ MORE

  • Why are my son's gums bleeding after a dental cleaning?

My opinion is someone was too rough in cleaning his teeth. 11 year old should not have bloody gums after cleanings. READ MORE

  • Can decay under a crown be fixed?

If we can get at it on the outside or inside and it does not go too far under the gum line we can place a filling. If under the gum-line and too close or into the area of bone the tooth must be extracted. READ MORE

  • Can dental issues cause speech issues?

Yes. If crowns are not shaped correctly or denture teeth are set wrong you will get changes in speech. Also maligned teeth will cause speech problems. READ MORE

  • What age should you fix a crossbite?

The earlier the better. A good orthodontist can do this more you know. Do not wait. READ MORE

  • Can I wear my retainer with a temporary crown?

Yes but be careful how you take it off. It may pull the temporary crown off. READ MORE

  • Is a crown better than filling?

A crown is needed when there is too much tooth structure missing. I prefer a filling unless the tooth is greatly compromised. READ MORE
