Get to know Neurosurgeon Dr. Lisa Anne Feldman, who serves patients in California.
An experienced neurosurgeon, Dr. Feldman practices at City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center & City of Hope Arcadia in California.
Equally at home in the operating room and the laboratory, she is determined to make a difference in the lives of people with brain and spinal cancer. “I went into medical school with a driven purpose to become a neurosurgeon so that I could combine my operating skills with my desire to care for patients, and use my Ph.D. training to generate new tumor therapies” she stated.
City of Hope’s neurosurgeons work diligently with other members of a patient’s medical team to create a sophisticated, coordinated multidisciplinary treatment approach, with active involvement of the Brain Tumor Team – neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists, radiation oncologists, support staff and social services – in order to provide optimal treatment for each patient’s particular case.
In addition to providing outstanding, comprehensive, individualized care, City of Hope surgeons are also dedicated to developing treatments that kill tumor cells while preserving precious brain function. They are experts in translational medicine – that is, translating laboratory science breakthroughs and research into treatments for patients.
The winner of numerous honors and awards throughout her academic and professional career, Dr. Feldman also has several surgical inventions to her credit. She sees City of Hope as a perfect fit, lauding its environment in which “patients are provided a very individualized therapy plan, generated by a multidisciplinary team of experts, including enrollment in cutting-edge clinical trials, with a warm, respectful and caring approach.”
Alongside her clinical role, she serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor within the Division of Neurosurgery, Department of Surgery at City of Hope.
Her acclaimed career in medicine began after she earned her medical degree from Rush Medical College. She then went on to perform her residency in neurological surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2018, and her fellowship in neuro-oncology at City of Hope in 2019. She also completed her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Neuroscience from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Passionate about her profession, Dr. Feldman is board-certified through the American Board of Neurological Surgery, whose broad aim is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.
Remaining up to date in her field, she is an active member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
Neurosurgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. Neurosurgeons are doctors who diagnose and treat problems with the nervous system, often by performing surgery on the brain or spine. They treat strokes, tumors, certain types of birth defects, infections, and head or spinal cord injuries.
