  • Is Laser Therapy Right for You?

Laser therapy is nothing new, it has been used, and heavily researched, in Europe as a primary treatment for pain since the ’70s. Class IV lasers were cleared by the FDA in the USA in 2003 for use for the relief of muscle and joint aches, pain and stiffness; relaxation of muscles and muscle...

  • How many chiropractor visits do I need for neck pain?

That is a great question but one I can not honestly answer without doing an exam, doing a history, and seeing X-rays. This is crucial in making that determination. Not knowing whether this is your first accident or trauma to you neck and your age is like asking how long will it take to paint a wall....Also, how long ago was the accident? How fast were you going? How fast was the other car going, Were you hit from behind, front, or broadside? Did the airbags deploy if you had them? Muscle memory sets in fairly quickly and needs to be rededicated in order to hold alignment. Another thing is whether this is the first trauma to your neck or the fifth? The longer you have had abnormal alignment, the longer it will take. I have patients that have responded to conservative chiropractic care in as little as 3-8 adjustments but they where very healthy before the accident or came in to the office within a few days of the trauma, I have had othera that took months to respond before they saw any relief, and a few who I refereed out as the did not respond at all. I hope you find relief and soon. Yours in Health, Dr. Scott READ MORE

  • Can chiropractors help with hip pain?

Yes! Absolutely yes! but first I need to know exactly where you pain is. A lot of patients complain of hip pain and then when asked to point to it, they point to there SI joints which are located more towards you back. That is a entirely different animal, but still can be corrected through effective Chiropractic care. If your pain is more located towards outside of where your hip is, then an experienced chiropractor that does extremity adjustments may help you immensely given there is no major degeneration going on. If you haven't already done so, I would suggest an X-ray of the effect region and then take it to a Chiropractor in your area with a good reputation, he should be able to evaluate it and determine what is going on, whether he can help or not, and refer you to someone who can if he can't. • How long does chiropractic treatment take to work for kids?

Great question, kids respond very quickly! That being said, it depends on the the mechanism of injury, the severity of the problem, and how long it has been around. Are they finally experiencing pain from a trauma from five years ago? Or is this from a fall, an accident, or recent trauma from the last week-month? The longer they have had any injury and depending on the severity, the longer it will take to correct. Chiropractic isn't magic, it will take time. Just like going to the gym, one time will not get anyone the body they want.....It takes time. A better example would be just like getting braces on your teeth, you don't get results in a week, it requires small adjustments over time and so does re-aligning your spine. The one thing your child has going for them is that they are still young, and will heal at the speed of light compared to adults....I miss being a kid! Best wishes to a speeding recovery, Yours in Health, Dr. Scott READ MORE

  • Is chiropractic treatment effective for son's back pain?

The answer is yes....But you need to give more details in your question. What kind of injury, how did it happen, is he feeling better a few days later or is it getting worse? What kind of pain is he experiencing, is it sharp or a deep ache, does it radiate into his leg or legs. Is it worse when sitting, standing or laying down? These descriptions would definitely narrow it down on what's going on without seeing your son in person and doing a thorough exam. But in a nutshell, you will find that you will probably get the most thorough muscular-skeletal exam from a good chiropractor than anyone else. I always communicate with the patients primary physicians my findings and try to co-manage my patients regardless of age, as I find we get the best results for each patient when everyone is on the same page. Best wishes to you and your son and I hope for a speedy recovery. Yours in Health, Dr. Scott READ MORE

  • Is scoliosis preventable?

There are several types of scoliosis, the four main types are - congenital, neuromuscular, degenerative, and idiopathic. Congenital scoliosis: Caused by a birth defect and occurs in only 1/10000 newborns and would be obvious from birth. Neuromuscular scoliosis: Caused by disorders of the brain, spinal cord, and muscular system. Degenerative scoliosis or adult onset scoliosis: This type is unique because it is adult onset scoliosis, compared to the other types, which mostly occur in children. This type is frequent in individuals over the age of 65. Idiopathic scoliosis: This type is the most common form of scoliosis, over 80% of all scoliosis cases, and usually affects children between the ages of 10 to 18. Idiopathic scoliosis is more common in adolescent girls. These curves progress as the child ages and slow down when they have hit maturity. Unfortunately, the cause of idiopathic scoliosis is unknown. There are many different theories and assumptions behind this condition but research has yet to find any of them conclusive. There is not much you can do for the first three types of scoliosis (in my opinion), but you can possibly reduce the risks for the idiopathic scoliosis. Check your son’s back pack! Backpacks that are too heavy can cause a lot of problems for kids, like back, neck, shoulder pain, and poor posture. Your child’s back pack should weigh NO MORE than 10-15% of his body weight. Any more, can cause undue stress on the spine and surrounding musculature which is harmful to a developing spine, as the spine will compensate for the added stress. It is especially important that he uses both straps and does not just carry it over one shoulder as this will transfer all of the weight in the bag to one side of the spine instead of being distributed equally or bilaterally. Over time, that could lead to unbalanced musculature and cause some curvature to the strong side. Unfortunately, I have no definitive answer for you on how to prevent “scoliosis”, but I would suggest that you find a good pediatric chiropractor in your area and have your child checked periodically. Kids are so resilient and rarely need much care to correct any misalignments that they may have developed. That being said, it is much easier to correct and maintain ones spine at an early age than it is to correct later on in life if let go. READ MORE

Dr. Scott Ungemach came highly recommended from a friend who had a herniated disc and goes there for the decompression table. I was having neck pain for about two weeks that was getting worse. I went over to her house to visit and I could hardly drive as I couldn’t turn my head do to this sharp pain that would shoot out into my left arm. It was my first time to a chiropractor and Dr. Scott was very accommodating as far as my anxiety. I got my neck treated that same day she called for an appointment for me. I’m glad I went as I felt so much better after getting adjusted. Now I know the next time I can't turn my head, I'm going straight to Dr. Scott.
