Can anesthesia cause lung damage?
No, in and of itself(the anesthetic) the gaseous entity can not, to my knowledge (I've been an anesthesiologist for 35 years) harm lung tissue. READ MORE
Can local anesthesia cause nerve damage?
Local anesthetic, in and of self as an entity, probably not. The placement of it (with a needle) possibly. The question specifically asked about 'nerve' damage, so no, but the local anesthetic itself, possibly--injected into a blood (heart issues) vessel, too much local anesthetic--problems, allergic reaction to the particular compound--problems. Each with those things being said, anesthesia-- from a purely statistical perspective, is a much safer experience than turning the keys in the ignition of your car and driving. READ MORE
Can nerve block be used for hand surgery?
Nerve blocks most certainly can be used for hand surgery. Talk to your surgeon and your anesthesiologist and do it!! The procedure will probably have some component of sedation, as well as the block to help you hold still. It's most often easier to work on a stationery 'target'/surgical field. Always ask questions before having a surgical procedure and anesthesia READ MORE
Can I get a liver biopsy without anesthesia?
The question is, ? Liver Biopsy without Anesthesia? At minimum the patient having a liver biopsy "without " Anesthesia will probably benefit from sterile technique, appropriate positioning and some sedation and local anesthesia. Where in the liver will the be from? Superficially? Close to the portal triad (deep)? Left side, right side, back? How skilled is the person taking the Biopsy? Ask. How 'tough' is the patient being biopsies? Necessary preprocedure inquiries. READ MORE
How long is anesthesia for a bronchoscopy?
Essentially as long as the procedure. So it will depend on exactly what is being done. READ MORE
Can general anesthesia for liver biopsy cause any issues?
Should not...why are you having a liver biopsy? READ MORE
Do you need to be sedated for a prostate biopsy?
Study a little bit concerning where those needles will placed to get a prostate biopsy. It's rarely one, single 'poke' with a needle big enough to an adequate amount of tissue. 1 prostatic nodule? 2? 4? It's often 4 samples per nodule, so frequently 16-20 (often including some 'normal' tissue biopsies) 'pokes' in your perineum (the area between your Anus and your scrotum. Would you like to be sedated for that? READ MORE
What kind of anesthesia is used during vein surgery?
Either general anesthesia or regional (spinal, epidural or numbing an arm), depending on the location of the varicose vein(s) being treated. Depends also on the surgeon, anesthesiologist and even the patient, a lot of variables. READ MORE
Is anesthesia required for radiotherapy?
Depends on the 'size'/intensity of the individual dose(s), the length of the procedure (holding still) and the location of the therapy (? Closeness to vital things). The therapist should be able to tell you. Ask them, what the last 100 people who have had this procedure chosen to do? READ MORE
What anesthesia is used for back surgery?
Working 'low' on the back, a simple (less than 1 hour (excise a piece of herniated disc, excision superficial fatty tissue,..) procedure could be done with a spinal (not having to go completely asleep) anesthetic.Anything longer than an hour (you get uncomfortable lying on your stomach on the back surgery positioning OR table), a general anesthetic will be used for the procedure. READ MORE
Does anesthesia paralyze your lungs?
No. READ MORE
Are you under general anesthesia for a liver biopsy?
Usually not unless the liver biopsy can be done as part of another procedure, it is gallbladder surgery. READ MORE
Is anesthesia and this medication ok?
Certainly, provided you are otherwise healthy. The vasodilatory effects of cialisis aren't that profound in hydrated healthy people and certainly don't last that (24 hours) long. If you are at all concerned (light headed upon standing, tie orthostatic BP drop), tell your provider. READ MORE
What type of anesthesia is used for hospice surgery?
Depends on the procedure. Anesthesia necessary for a particular procedure is essentially the same regardless of the patient being 'in' hospice or not. READ MORE
Do you get general anesthesia for appendectomy?
Usually. A general anesthetic for an appendectomy will provide excellent anesthesia for any and all possible unexpected presentations of any individual appendix: adhesions, rupture, retroflexion of the appendix, laparoscopic procedure, etc. For an (?) elective appendectomy, perhaps a spinal anesthetic could be used in a hydrated, "normal" body habitus, not having eaten patient. Every case has its own nuances, and going into any anesthetic situation expecting anything and/or everything is a prudent mindset to have. If you have the equipment and OR staff experienced with total IV anesthesia (a helpful and available pharmaceutical staff), that could be an option. READ MORE
Does spinal anesthesia cause back pain?
No. A spinal anesthetic does not cause back pain in and of itself. I, personally, have had 2 spinal anesthetics for each of my total knee operations. READ MORE
How long will my back hurt after a spinal block?
Why are you having a spinal anesthetic? Does your back already hurt and a 'spinal' injection is part of the treatment? If you are having a spinal as the primary anesthetic for a procedure (knee, foot, groin hernia, C-section, etc), your back shouldn't hurt at all. The skin where the spinal is/was administered will be similar to after a 'blood draw', a little local reaction to the skin being punctured. Depending on your age, hydration status, etc., a spinal has some other potential effects, but back pain, in and of itself is not one of them. I personally have had a spinal anesthetic for knee surgery. Back pain, if experienced, is not due to the spinal anesthetic. READ MORE
Can someone with scoliosis get an epidural?
Some with scoliosis can get an epidural provided they haven't had surgery and their 'back'/vertebra aren't fused together. Fused vertebrae eliminate the epidural space (nearly always). No epidural space, no epidural block. Sometimes intrathecal injections are still possible. READ MORE
