An experienced cardiologist, Dr. Schaeffer is affiliated with UH North Ohio Heart, seeing patients at their Elyria, Amherst and Lorain offices.
Providing a unique approach to healthcare since 1999, UH North Ohio Heart offers cardiology, primary care, diagnostic imaging and laboratory services at convenient locations across Cuyahoga, Lorain, Huron and Erie counties.
Back in 1967, Dr. Schaeffer earned his undergraduate degree from The College of Wooster, before graduating with his medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1971. He then went on to complete his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University Of Colorado Denver Health Sciences Center in 1974, before completing his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the same educational venue in 1976.
Distinguished as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the doctor is board-certified in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
