He served a two-year tenure as a Regional Occupational Medicine Physician at Concentra Medical Center, was a Family Practice Physician at Vaughan Medical Center, was the Chief Medical Officer & Clinical Director for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and served as a member of the Task Force for Emergency Preparedness for the 1996 Olympic Games. His successes during his four-year tenure included innovations in patient monitoring and management that improved the quality of care for inmate patients, as well as logistical improvements throughout the system.
Prior to working with the federal prison system, Dr. Di Santo served as an emergency room medical physician, occupational medicine physician, and urgent care physician at hospitals throughout California and Arizona. At Phoenix General Hospital, he earned the Golden Heart Award for his caring service to patients. While working as an emergency medicine physician, he also donated a significant portion of his time to service in the Air National Guard, in the Military Airlift and Air Tactical Air Command divisions.
Early formation of his medical philosophy began as a high school junior when he was drawn to the study of psychosomatics and homeostatic disruption brought about by prolonged stress (psychological, sociological, and physical). These studies were reinforced during his attendance at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science through the University of Pennsylvania during his junior and senior year of high school.
Further philosophical development took place as a college freshman with the attraction to ecological principles of integrated systems and cause and effect relationships. Dr. Di Santo earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1986, after which he went on to complete his training in family medicine at Phoenix General Hospital. This was followed by a residency in occupational and environmental medicine at the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine in 1991.
To expand his knowledge of integrative healing techniques, he subsequently applied to the Open International University for Complementary Medicine. He spent the next four years in Sri Lanka and the United States, acquiring a comprehensive understanding of occupational and environmental medicine, Ayurveda, sonopuncture and laser therapy, acupuncture, and homeopathy. He was awarded both a Doctor of Acupuncture degree and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Traditional/Oriental Medicine in 1992.
Strongly committed to remaining abreast of the most recent advancements in his field, Dr. Di Santo regularly participates in a wide variety of continuing education classes, medical conferences, and educational events throughout the country. Holding medical licenses in 23 states, Dr. Di Santo is also certified in clinical nutrition and anti-aging medicine with specialized qualifications in acupuncture, chelation therapy, environmental health, and classical homeopathy. He holds a Certificate from the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute and is a Building Biology Environmental Consultant.
Remaining at the forefront of his challenging speciality, he is a member of the International and American Associations of Clinical Nutritionists, the American Osteopathic Association, and the American Academy of Classical Homeopathy.
Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.
With over 35 years in the medical field, Dr. Di Santo feels that his success is attributable primarily to his philosophical approach to medicine on an integrative scale. He recognizes that, because people hail from such diverse backgrounds and have needs that are specific and individual, he can offer the best and most comprehensive treatment and techniques that are tailor-made for each individual.
