  • Is puking without any other health concern serious?

The vomit is violent exposure through the mouth of the contents of the stomach, you must distinguish between vomit and regurgitation, the latter is expelled through the mouth without effort. The main causes of vomiting are secondary to medications, gastrointestinal infections or outside the digestive tract, pregnancy (in case of being female) motion sickness, slow intestinal transit, it is necessary to address this symptom through 3 steps: The first step is to evaluate and treat the harmful consequences of nausea and vomiting, such as dehydration or altered levels of blood chemicals (electrolyte imbalance). Then, the cause for nausea and vomiting should be investigated. Finally, if it is not possible to determine the cause, therapy is started to improve the symptoms; so it is recommended that you visit a doctor. Miguel Alejandro Benítez Sanfeliz MD. READ MORE

  • No peristalsis, floppy colon- what can help?

Good morning, constipation is a health problem present in up to 20% of the general population, there are 2 fundamental types of constipation: primary (due to an intrinsic cause) and secondary (due to an extrinsic cause); inside dl primary constipation there are 3 subtypes, one of which you suffer called colonic inertia or slow transit with normal or abnormal pelvic floor. In constipation due to slow transit or colonic inertia, a decrease in the number of high amplitude propagated colonic contractions and an uncoordinated increase in motor activity of the distal colon has been identified, resulting in a functional barrier or resistance to normal colonic transit. however, causes that associate slow transit with pelvic floor abnormalities may coexist. Initially a therapeutical test with fiber is recommended 25 grams per day for 2 weeks (to assess response to the symptom) without mebargo without no improvement (as in its case) it is necessary to perform complementary studies such as colonic transit with markers and anorectal manometry. If it is only a matter of slow transit or colonic inertia, the pillar of medical treatment is the laxative, first-line bolus formers such as psyllium, if there is minimal response or low tolerance, the second line: hyperosmotic laxatives of which polyethylene glycol has proven to be the safest and most effective prokinetic agents such as cisapride and tegaserod. It should be remembered that defecation is a conditioned reflex learned, so we must re-educate ourselves as patients to establish a regular pattern of bowel movements, mainly morning, perform physical activity, consume appropriately 1500-2000 cc a day and consume a diet rich in fiber (20-30 grams). I hope to have resolved your doubt, greetings from Mexico. READ MORE

  • Is asthma hereditary?

Asthma has an important genetic component but without a well-defined hereditary pat- tern, with heritability rates from 36 to 79%. In addition to risk to develop the disease, inheritance is implied to regulate its expression and severity. Asthma is a polygenic disease, multiple genes (more than 100) have been related to the expression of the disease in association with allergies, this in relation to the interaction these genes present with each other and with the environment. The most important environmental factors that condition an increase in the expression of these genetic alterations are: Fungal infections or exposure to proteases of some exoparasites (mites), exposure to allergens as well as irritant contaminants such as tobacco or suspended particles such as monoxide de carbon, other factors such as obesity, deficiency of immunoglobulins (type A), even the working environment can trigger allergic (allergic) or non-allergic asthma. The genotype or genetic structure that increases the risk of asthma is not modifiable, but the genes involved interact and generate a response to the risk factors commented on, so avoiding these decreases the possibility of suffering from the disease or even decreases the possibility of an earlier expression or of greater gravity, influencing positively in the symptoms control. I hope to have resolved your doubt, greetings from Mexico. READ MORE
