Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Kurt T. Jackson, who serves patients throughout the State of New Jersey.
Dr. Jackson is a practicing ophthalmologist and vitreous-retinal surgeon specializing in medical and surgical disease. He was employed at Retina Center of New Jersey, LLC, but recently has branched out on his own and will be opening a practice, Jackson Eye Care, LLC, in Livingston, NJ in Spring 2021.
Before moving to New Jersey, he was a practicing vitreous-retinal surgeon in Corpus Christi, Texas from 2009 – 2011 and in Greenville, North Carolina from 2012 – 2013. He then joined Retina Center of New Jersey, LLC in May of 2013.
With a broad educational background, Dr. Jackson attended Long Island University and graduated Valedictorian of the Class of 1998. He was accepted into the prestigious Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he graduated in 2003 with his medical degree. After completing a transitional internship at New York Hospital Medical Center in 2004, he returned to Albert Einstein College of Medicine to pursue his residency training in ophthalmology, which he completed in 2007. He served as the Chief Resident at Jacobi Medical Center from 2006-2007, and then completed his two year vitreous-retinal fellowship at South Texas Retina Consultants in Corpus Christi in 2009.
A leader in comprehensive vitreo-retinal eye care, the doctor is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.
While serving in the U.S. Army as a medic for four years and an eye technician for two years, Dr. Jackson received a US Army Achievement Medal, Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and a National Defense Medal.
Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.
Happily married, Dr. Jackson and his wife, Kai, have three children. He and his family lived in Montclair, New Jersey while he was in residency training and his dream upon completion of his residency training has always been to bring his family back to the Northern New Jersey area.
In his spare time, Dr. Jackson enjoys spending quality time with his family and is active with his church. He is fluent in both English and Spanish and looks forward to serving the needs of his patients.
