Get to know Rheumatologist Dr. Adianez Santiago, who studies in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Graduating with the class of 2013, Dr. Santiago earned her medical degree from the Ibero-American University School of Medicine in the Dominican Republic. She then went on to perform her residency in internal medicine at Hospital de la Concepción in Puerto Rico in 2020.

Currently, she is a second-year rheumatology fellow within the Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus, School of Medicine.

The University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus, School of Medicine is located in the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is the only medical school in the University of Puerto Rico System, and is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). 

Specializing in diseases affecting skeletal functions, Dr. Santiago is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Rheumatology is a branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of rheumatic diseases. Physicians who have undergone formal training in rheumatology are called rheumatologists. Rheumatologists treat arthritis, autoimmune diseases, pain disorders affecting joints, and osteoporosis. There are more than 200 types of these diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, lupus, back pain, osteoporosis, and tendinitis.
