Dr. Anna Duncan DO's Expert Contributions
  • Distill or purified water?

Distilled water is cleaner than purified water. Water is purified then treated with the distillation process where further contaminants and removed, but some minerals are maintained. Either would probably be safe, but I would probably go with distilled. And it is usually the least expensive, 60 to 80 cents is what I have seen. Take care, and also ask his primary care physician. • What would cause a change in focus and balance through the day?

He needs to see his PCP. He could be exhibiting some signs of Parkinson’s or Dementia. He could be suffering these and depression. He needs evaluated soon as these can be treated READ MORE

  • Can Covid-19 cause blood in mucus?

It could but it sounds like she may have a co-existent bacterial infection of the ear and maybe sinus. Needs to call doctor READ MORE

  • Why does my wife get cold sores?

Yes, the valcyclovir is common as it treats the virus that lays in wait and causes cold sore. If her immune system is compromised like with thyroid, it CAN be; it does NOT mean thyroid causes it. READ MORE

  • Can men have cellulitis?

Yes, men and women can both have cellulitis. It is an infection involving the skin, so anyone with skin can acquire this. Anna Duncan READ MORE

  • Are weight loss pills safe?

It depends on your health and other meds. If prescribed and monitored properly by your PCP, it's the safest way to use weight loss pills. I do not recommend over-the-counter weight loss supplements. Yes, there are many supplements and vitamins I do recommend. READ MORE

  • Why do I have a fever after my flu shot?

It may be a slight result of vaccination doing its job. It also may be a coincidence. It also depends on how high the fever is. You do not mention that reading. Be sure to mention to your primary care doctor, but if the fever was low or you just felt a little warm for awhile, it is probably the vaccine doing what it is meant to do. Take Care and God Bless READ MORE

  • Motion sickness in children?

He may do best riding in the front seat, depending how big he is and if he still needs a car seat. Sometimes this can help. There may be some inner ear maneuvers that could help, but you would need to see an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor to have this investigated. If none of this works or finds an answer then medication may be the choice. Be sure to see what his primary care doctor recommends. Take Care and God Bless READ MORE

  • Can cetrizine help in reducing fever?

Cetrizine is strictly an antihistamine. In the dimilar category of Allegra, Benadryl. It’s brand name is Zyrtec. If you were already feeling bad or like you had a “cold” it is more likely that the fever was a result of the illness. Of course I can not answer this definitely in this type of forum so also check with your personal family doctor. Take Carr and God Bless. READ MORE

  • My swine flu test is negative but my cough persists. Should I retake the test?

Anything infectious, irritating or invasive can cause a severe cough. You do not say how long you have had the cough, this is important information. If you have had the cough for a few weeks with and after being sick with a respiratory illness this would not be that unusual. If the cough persists longer than that or you have had it for awhile it needs to be further evaluated, and NOT with another flu test. See your primary family doctor for recheck and you might need a Chest X-ray. If you start or are running a fever or cough up pink mucous or blood you need to be seen by a doctor immediately. Hope this helps Take Care and God Bless READ MORE

  • I have had mild symptoms of the flu continuously for two months. What could be the reason?

You do not say what the symptoms are specifically. The flu does not last for 2 months and perhaps your symptoms started with an illness that was viral and not bacterial. Antibiotics are for treating bacterial infections. They do NOT treat viral infections. If you have not followed up with your doctor, please do so. If you have and still are at a loss you can always change doctors. But doctors typically want their patients to get well. It is their task to investigate, diagnose possible possible problems, test and treat. Take Care and God Bless READ MORE
