My husband has a bone growth in his ankle. What should we do?
In this situation, it is best to have this evaluated to determine what exactly is going on. From what it sounds like, it could be an enchondroma, a non-cancerous tumor which are very common. An exam by an orthopedist would probably be the best route in my opinion because they could also offer to remove it if necessary. READ MORE
Why does my back feel sore?
There could be a number of factors, although one of the issues may be your mattress. If you don’t have a mattress that appropriately fills in the gaps of your back, then you won’t have the proper support for your back while you are sleeping. I generally recommend that if you have had your mattress for a number of years, and especially if it has a “dip” in the mattress from wear, then it is time to start looking for a mattress that can be fit better for your body. I have lipoma under my arms. Can a chiropractor help?
Yes, there are many physicians that can diagnose a lipoma. Chiropractors can do so, as well a medical doctors, orthopedists, dermatologists, just to name a few that are off the top of my head. With something like this, you should have an evaluation and testing to confirm. READ MORE
I am having severe neck pain. What could be the reason?
I am so sorry to hear that you are having pain! There are many reasons for intense neck pain, and you will have to get an exam to determine the cause. There are many different providers that can evaluate neck pain, some of which include chiropractors, medical doctors, orthopedists, physical therapists, neurologists, etc. The most important thing is to first determine if this pain is a non-emergency and musculoskeletal. In our office, commonly we see this type of pain with a muscle strain. Muscle strains can come on quickly and are very painful, but fortunately they also heal quickly (a few weeks). Chiropractors will be able to evaluate this to determine what the cause of your pain is and be able to treat this effectively. If you try and make an appointment with a chiropractic office, and you can't get in right away, you may want to go to your local Urgent Care center for an evaluation to at least have them determine if this is a symptom of a medical emergency. If you have been evaluated and determined that it is not an emergency situation, then your local chiropractor should be able to help. READ MORE
My father is suffering from severe back pain. Can it be treated with manual adjustment of the spine?
I think that it is great that your father is looking for more conservative methods of treatment. In our chiropractic office, I see patients of all ages with severe back pain that we help. He would first need a chiropractic examination to determine if his issue is something that a manual adjustment would be necessary. Chiropractic care is a great way to treat many conditions in the lower back and would be a smart move for him to see if this would work before trying treatments with a higher risk. READ MORE
Experiencing numbness and pain after elbow fracture treatment. Why is this happening?
Hi there! First of all some follow up questions I would have would be what the major accident was, what was fractured in the elbow, and what surgery was performed. There are nerves, especially the ulnar nerve, that runs right through the elbow. This is what nerve you hit when you accidently hit your "funny bone". There could be some impingement on this nerve although it is unclear without examination and testing. In my opinion, I would go back to the surgeon for a follow up to discuss these symptoms. If all else fails, a chiropractor on examination can easily figure out at least which nerve may be having pressure on it and help to determine the best course of action, which may be in this case to find a different surgeon if the current one is not helping. Do chiropractors typically take x-rays?
Many chiropractors typically take x-rays to rule out any possible pathology or to create more of a clear understanding of what the issue may be. Sometimes there are things going on that the doctor is unable to feel with his or her hands on examination. Some chiropractors routinely take x-rays if they are working on spinal curvature correction. READ MORE
Pain years after spinal fusion surgery
Hi there! Whenever you change the structure of your spine including surgery and fusing vertebrae, it can cause wear on places above and below the surgery. While the issue may not be the surgery itself, it may be because the biomechanics have changed. A good evaluation from a chiropractor can help to see which structures may be irritated and why. My back hurts when I sit down. Why?
Hi there! Unfortunately, sometimes it is very difficult to find the exact cause of symptoms like this. Many times we try to find associations between when the pain is felt, and the time of day or activity that is occurring. A good exam and questioning by a chiropractor may be able to figure out how this had happened. If all else fails, sometimes if treatment is warranted, one the symptoms improve, we can determine the cause of there is another flare up. First you should consult for help to determine what kind of issue this is, and how to treat it. Hope this helps! READ MORE
