Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Andrew M. Hutter, who serves patients in West Orange, New Jersey.

Dr. Hutter is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon treating a variety of conditions including athletic injuries, arthritic conditions, fractures, as well as neck and back pain. Initially a trauma surgeon, he has extensive experience with knee and shoulder arthroscopy and lumbar pain management; however, his current concentration is the in-office practice of orthopedics.

Specializing in orthopedic occupational medicine and skilled in treating workplace injuries, the doctor is currently in practice with Summit Medical Group in West Orange, New Jersey. He understands the importance of prompt diagnosis and treatment to get patients back to work quickly and safely. He strongly believes in the benefit of patients being active participants in their own recovery and will work with them to develop a treatment plan that will help them get back to their healthiest self.

In his current capacity, Dr. Hutter is also a certified acupuncturist, having received his training through UCLA. He believes in complementary medicine and utilizes acupuncture in addition to traditional medicine, a combination which, when appropriate, can be very effective. 

A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (FAAOS) and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), he previously served on the AAOS Committee on Complementary and Alternative Medicine. He was a contributing and reviewing editor for the AAOS 2003 Body Almanac, a book for the lay population on bone and joint health.

Back in 1983, Dr. Hutter earned his medical degree from the Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C., where he currently serves as a lecturer to the orthopedic residents as part of their academic program. Wanting to further his training, he went on to complete his internship in general surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, followed by his residency in orthopedic surgery at the same educational venue. 

Following his education, he became board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons. 

Throughout his various experiences in the professional sphere, Dr. Hutter has been an Assistant Team Orthopedic Surgeon for the Red Bull and Metrostars professional soccer teams, the NJ Gladiators of the Arena Football League, and the NJ Storm of the National Lacrosse League. He has also served as an orthopedic consultant to various local high schools, as well as remains affiliated with St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey.

Proudly practicing in the community where he grew up, he is involved in many local organizations including Congregation Etz Chaim, where he is a past President and in the Friendship Circle. He is the past Chairman of the Metro New Jersey Israel Bond Organization and presently serves as the Secretary of the Board of Directors for Israel Bonds Nationally. He has led several medical missions to Israel on behalf of Israel Bonds.
