With a unique focus on the field of nephrology, Dr. Ortiz has dedicated training and unique experience in kidney care and the treatment of diseases of the kidneys. At present, he serves in various clinical roles in Puerto Rico, including: Medical Director of Atlantis Healthcare Group, Renal Center of Caguas; Medical Director of Atlantis Healthcare Group, Renal Center of Juncos; staff nephrologist at Fresenius Medical Care, Caguas Dialysis Clinic; staff nephrologist at Fresenius Medical Care, Humacao Dialysis Clinic; staff nephrologist at HIMA•San Pablo Caguas Hospital; staff nephrologist at Ryder Memorial Hospital; and staff nephrologist at Hospital Menonita de Caguas.

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys. It is the study of normal kidney function and kidney disease, the preservation of kidney health, and the treatment of kidney disease, from diet and medication to renal replacement therapy. Nephrologists have advanced training in treating kidney disease. They diagnose and treat kidney failure, as well as help patients by prescribing medications, offering special diet advice, and coordinating dialysis care when the time comes. 

Throughout his many years of experience, Dr. Ortiz has upheld a steadfast commitment to the ethical and professional standards of his practice, as evidenced by his sterling record. He has also conducted several publications, including ‘A Rare Case Of B- Cell Prolymphocytic Leukemia: A Case Report’ & ‘Life-Threatening Hyperkalemia in Chronic Kidney Disease Patients.’
