A native Spanish speaker raised in New York, he earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from Binghamton University in New York. He joined a research team at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, where he studied the role of health education in diabetes outcomes. He then went on to earn his medical degree from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, where he participated in various research studies at the world-renowned Wills Eye Hospital.

After medical school, he completed an internship at Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital in New York, followed by a three-year residency at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, New York. He finished his education with a fellowship at the University of South Florida in Tampa, where he trained in glaucoma management, including incisional surgery, laser surgery, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.

Thereafter, the doctor became board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America. Throughout his career, Dr. Ferreira has earned the On-Time Doctor Award in both 2016 and 2018 and the Patients’ Choice Award in 2018.
