Dr. Melanie Alarcio is a fellowship-trained physician in Neurology and Psychiatry with a special qualification in Child Neurology. She has also been a practicing pediatrician since 1994, is board-certified in the Philippines where she completed her first residency in Pediatrics. She completed a second pediatric residency at King Drew Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA and went on to complete a pediatric neurology fellowship at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. She was an International Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and is now a Fellow of the Medical Academy for Pediatrics Special Needs (MAPS). Additionally, she is an active member of the International Child Neurology Association (ICNA), American Academy of Neurology (AAN), International Association of Functional Neurology and Rehabilitation (IAFNR) and is a board member of the International Board of Functional Neurology (IBFN). She was awarded "TOP DOCTOR" by US News for Pediatric Neurology in 2014, 2015, and 2017. Dr. Alarcio is an eminently qualified and caring physician in the field of neurology and pediatric neurology.

At what age is an autism diagnosis confirmed?
You can get an "at risk for autism" diagnosis at this age which can be done using the M-CHAT. With this diagnosis, he can start early intervention therapies before age 3 then transition to a developmental preschool. At that point, the school district can do a psychoeducational evaluation and can give diagnosis, but I suggest you seek a medical diagnosis as well through a developmental pediatrician or neuropsychologist.
