Get to know Psychiatrist Dr. Burt Singerman, who serves patients in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
But Singerman, MD, MPH is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He graduated from Harvard Medical School and completed his psychiatric residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He has served as the head of three successful academic departments of psychiatry and has just accepted a new chairmanship.
Dr. Singerman was a Civilian Psychiatric Consultant to the Pentagon and the Department of Defense. He worked with Dr. Donald Meichenbaum to develop stress inoculation training, which is now required by all branches of the United States military. Pre-deployed soldiers must complete Stress Inoculation Therapy before they are sent to a combat theater. This training has been shown to decrease the probability of developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from combat experiences.
Dr. Singerman has received an Exemplary Psychiatrist of We Year Award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness. He was also awarded the Psychiatry Leadership Award in 2021 for his contributions to psychiatry.
In addition to his own clinical practice, Dr. Singerman founded and acts as Medical Director of the National Psychiatry and Psychology Subspecialty Expert Witness Network.
