He has extensive experience in performing EMG/NCS studies, toxin injections, and EEG interpretation.
Previously practicing in private practices in several cities across Orange County, Dr. Thong served as a Consultant Neurologist at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and Patton State Hospital. He also held several academic appointments, serving as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California, Irvine, Western University of Health Sciences, and the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. He developed curriculum and taught lectures at the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in various topics such as didactic and clinical lectures in family practice medicine, and clinical teaching for medical school students.
Additionally, he has served as a sub-investigator for various Parkinson’s disease and cervical dystonia clinical trials, notably – the clinical trial of levodopa-carbidopa intestinal gel that produced the commercial drug Duopa for advanced Parkinson’s disease patients.
With a broad educational background, Dr. Thong graduated with his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. He then performed his fellowship in neuroanatomy and neurophysiology at Georgetown University Medical Center. He remained at Georgetown University Medical Center to obtain his residency in neurology and finished at The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
Dedicated to excellence, he is board-certified in neurology by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry, a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology. Additionally, he is board-certified through the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
Having met the standards and guidelines required of the nation’s leading neurologists, Dr. Thong is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (FAAN). He is also a member of the California Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Vietnamese American Medical Association.
