Get to know Neonatologist Dr. Josel Doyle, who serves patients in Topeka, Kansas.

A board-certified neonatologist, Dr. Doyle is affiliated with Pediatrix Neonatology of Topeka. Her clinical interests include neonatal nutrition, developmental outcomes, and respiratory distress syndrome, which are all essential components of the care of premature and critically ill infants.

Pediatrix Neonatology of Topeka has been caring for premature and critically-ill newborns since 1997. In 2013, they started to provide services in the St. Francis Health Level II NICU in Topeka. They also provide newborn hearing services in several area hospitals. Our board certified neonatologist and certified neonatal nurse practitioners (NNPs) are supported by a skilled multidisciplinary team.

In regards to her educational background, Dr. Doyle received her undergraduate and medical degrees from St. George’s University School of Medicine. She then went on to complete her residency in pediatrics and her fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Winthrop University Hospital, including a term as Chief Resident at Stony Brook University Hospital.

Passionate about her profession, the doctor is board-certified in neonatal-perinatal medicine and pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The mission of the ABP is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

As a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, she is committed to staying up-to-date with the latest advances in her field and providing the most effective treatments for her patients. She is also actively involved in several organizations, including the Kansas Perinatal Collaborative on Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) and Stormont Vail Hospital’s NAS task force, where she helps to develop policies and practices aimed at improving the care of infants affected by substance use disorders.

Additionally, Dr. Doyle leads Stormont’s Family-Centered Care Committee and serves on the NICU Developmental and Relationship Committee, demonstrating her dedication to ensuring that her patients receive comprehensive and compassionate care.

Neonatology is a subspecialty of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially ill or premature newborns. It is a hospital-based specialty and is usually practiced in neonatal intensive care units. Neonatologists generally diagnose and treat newborns with conditions such as breathing disorders, infections, and birth defects, as well as coordinating care and medically managing newborns born prematurely, critically ill, or in need of surgery.

On a more personal note, Dr. Doyle credits her parents and her faith in God for instilling in her a strong sense of purpose and the values of hard work, compassion, and dedication. Her love for the profession has also been a driving force in her success. She is deeply committed to providing the best possible care to her patients and is constantly seeking new ways to improve outcomes and enhance the patient experience.
