How do you relieve the pain of a dental bridge?
The best thing is to go back to your dentist for proper assessment and let him/her know you're having discomfort so he/she can do what needs to be done to help with alleviating the discomfort. READ MORE
Are teeth bridges permanent?
To be clear, a bridge consists of 3 or more crowns that are connected and replace one or more missing teeth in one area of the mouth. So yes, a bridge is a permanent restoration that is cemented (glued) in permanently and is not removable. You don't have to remove it after each time you eat to clean it. As long as the bridge is kept clean by brushing and flossing, it should last for a long time. If you need further information and clarification, please make sure that you speak with your dental provider so that you will be fully aware of the treatment that you are receiving. READ MORE
What is the fastest way to heal swollen gums?
It depends. Are your gums swollen all over or in one specific area? If you have generalized inflammation, most likely you would need deep scaling and you have to make sure you floss daily to keep your gums clean and healthy. If the swelling is in one given area related to a tooth, then the treatment could either be a root canal or extraction. Please see your dentist for a full exam with X-rays in order to determine what treatments are necessary. READ MORE
Can I use mouthwash 1 week after extraction?
I usually tell my patients to not use mouthwash for three weeks or until the extraction site is fully healed since mouthwash tends to be harsh when you have an open wound and could delay healing. You can rinse with warm salt water instead. READ MORE
How do I get rid of the black line on my gums?
Black lines on your gums could be caused by the accumulation of calculus along the gum line in which case you would need deep scaling. If the black line is in the area where you have a crown, that's from the metal inside the crown that shows along the margin. You can replace the crown with a metal-free crown to correct that. Another possible cause could be that it's the level of melanin in the gums that can cause the gums to look darker in certain areas. The best way to determine the cause would be to get evaluated by your dentist. READ MORE
How can I get rid of the sensitivity in my front teeth?
First, you have to find out what's causing the sensitivity. Sensitivity could be caused by wear of the enamel or recession of the gums from brushing hard or it could be caused by a cavity or it could be due to boneloss, each of which has different treatments. Best way to determine the cause and getting the right treatment would be to visit your dentist for an evaluation. READ MORE
How do you get rid of geographic tongue?
No. It's nothing to be worried about. The actual cause is not known. READ MORE
Do I need surgery to fix my wisdom tooth problems?
Please see a dentist determine whether you would have to have your wisdom teeth extracted. READ MORE
What should I eat after scaling and root planing?
I would say wait about 24 hours before you eat anything acidic or spicy in case your gums could be sensitive. In the meantime, you can rinse with warm salt water (or chlorhexidine if it was prescribed by your dentist) to help the gums heal. However, make sure you floss daily to keep your gums clean and healthy. READ MORE
Why would a root canal tooth hurt?
Usually, you can have some discomfort right after the root canal treatment is done. Try not to eat on the side where the root canal-treated tooth is for a few days and if you were prescribed antibiotics, finish taking them. If the tooth was root canal treated a while ago and now it's hurting, it could be that the tooth has an infection or it's fractured. In either case, please see a dentist to have the tooth evaluated. READ MORE
Should I rinse my mouth after eating after tooth extraction?
Yes. You can rinse with water or warm salt water (no mouthwash until fully healed) to keep the extraction site clean. But make sure that you do so gently to prevent the clot from getting dislodged. If the clot is dislodged, which usually happens 2-4 days after the extraction, you get a dry socket and that is painful, in which case you would have to visit your dentist to have some medicine applied to the area to help with the pain and the healing process.
