Get to know General Surgeon Dr. Harold Neyra, who serves patients in Oviedo, Florida.

Dr. Neyra is a board-certified, fellowship-trained general surgeon at Surgical Specialty Group of Oviedo. He brings skill, hard work, dedication, compassion and a positive attitude to serve Oviedo, Florida and the surrounding communities.

Some of the procedures that he performs include: bariatric endoscopy procedures, gastric banding, roux-en-Y gastric bypass, intragastric balloon, laparoscopic roux-en-Y gastric bypass, revision/conversion of prior procedure, and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. He can also be found on staff at Oviedo Medical Center and Central Florida Regional Hospital. 

At the start of his academic career, Dr. Neyra obtained his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2011. He completed his residency in general surgery at St. Barnabas Hospital where he was exposed to very challenging and unique surgical cases, rotating at some of the top hospitals in New York City. From there, he went on to perform his fellowship training in advanced minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro.

Dedicated to surgical excellence, he is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery, an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge. 

Holding membership status with several professional organizations, Dr. Neyra is an active member of the American Osteopathic Association and the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care. 

On a more personal note, Dr. Neyra is fluent in both English and Spanish.
