Cynthia J. Carlyn, MD, FIDSA, is a seasoned infectious disease specialist who serves as Chief of Infectious Disease at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, NY. Thus, she overseas 5 programs, including HIV medicine, antibiotic stewardship, infection prevention (chair), home IV antibiotics, and general infectious disease. And, she is a mentor for medical students, internal medicine interns and residents, and allergy fellows from Albany Medical Center. Get to know Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Cynthia Joan Carlyn, who serves patients in Albany, New York.
Dr. Carlyn is an infectious disease specialist serving Albany and the surrounding communities. She is affiliated with the US Department of Veterans Affairs – America’s largest integrated health care system, providing care at 1,255 health care facilities, including 170 medical centers and 1,074 outpatient sites of care of varying complexity (VHA outpatient clinics), serving 9 million enrolled Veterans each year.
In 1979 Dr. Carlyn earned her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School. She went on to complete a residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Medical Microbiology. With over 40 years of practice in the field, Dr. Carlyn has treated thousands of patients. She has been recognized and awarded as a “Top Doctor” by Castle Connolly in 2015 and the “Physician of Excellence” by the SYAMC in 2008.
To stay up to date in her field, Dr. Carlyn is an active member of the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA). The IDSA is a community of over 11,000 physicians, scientists and public health experts who specialize in infectious diseases. Their mission is to improve the health of individuals, communities, and society by promoting excellence in patient care, education, research, public health, and prevention.
