Douglas S. McFarlane, MD, FRCSE, is an established orthopedic surgeon with 39 years of experience in his specialty and special expertise as nonsurgical ankle, elbow, hip, knee, shoulder, sports medicine and wrist specialist. He currently practices at Cape Fear Orthopedics in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Dr. McFarlane earned his medical degree from The University of Edinburgh in Scotland. He stayed in Scotland to complete a surgical internship at Eastern General Hospital, also in Edinburgh, and his orthopedic residency at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. From there, he traveled to the United States, where he completed a research fellowship in surgery at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Outside of his clinical duties, Dr. McFarlane is a member of many organizations, including the British Orthopedic Association, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Southern Orthopedic Association. Additionally, he is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Edinburgh, Scotland.
